What's better a Yorkie or a Silky Terrier??? I have my eye on both of them and i can't seem to find the difference in appearance they both look a-like...Can anyone tell me whats the difference and whats better???? |
i belive that on the whole they tend to be larger.. they do not have the full coat of the Yorkie.. it is rather thin.. i saw them today at a dog show.. and in my personal opinion i don't think they have as sweet of a face.. their noses tend to be longer. |
Silkies tend to be stockier. I personally think yorkies are much cuter, but maybe I am biased :p |
We have 2 yorkie girls that are both 2 years old and got a silky boy in December...he is now 17 weeks. The silkies do get a little larger...but one of our yorkies is not small - 8 pounds - and so our new silky will not be but a little bigger. Silkies are a little shorter, have a longer face and their coats do not grow as long and their hair on the top of their face is actually a 3rd color and is parted to each side - not put up in a topknot. But personality wise....this little silky boy is just a little love bug and very easy going and a very quick learner - easy to potty train! If I were you, I would spend some time with adult yorkies and adult silkies....so you can see the differences....because as puppies they are very similar! |
Silky's have a longer body, muzzle, and ears. They are larger bone, their coat is thin and straight and in the ring they don't wear a top-knot. They are wonderful little dogs. |
I recently purchased Silkies . They are adorable little ones . Both breeds are beautiful and intelligent . |
You can find the definition of the standards for both on places like akc.org or even on puppyfind.com Both places with also have pictures of both breeds. If you click on the following links and then click on the picture it will take you to a few pictures of each breed. http://www.puppyfind.com/breed/?bree...3Ds%26page%3D1 http://www.puppyfind.com/breed/?bree...3Dy%26page%3D1 There are a few Yorkies out there that look like Silkies and a few Silkies that look like Yorkies. You just need to check out some pups of both kinds along with their parents and find one that fits you best.:D |
4 Attachment(s) I have personally never owned a Silky, but I really do like them. The ones I've seen are just beautiful IMO. And I DO think that alot of them have a very beautiful coat. Lenora (browniesmom622) has a Silky named Kayko and I think he is ADORABLE!!! I just LOVE his sweet face and he has a GORGEOUS coat!!! Looks TOTALLY like a Yorkie coat to me! ;) (See pics below - hope you don't mind me posting these Lenora! I'm just showing off your little man because I love him so much, LOL ;)) and also - Silky's are MUCH cheaper in price - so if money is an option, then I would highly recommend considering a Silky. And actually, if I could be guaranteed a Silky that looked EXACTLY like Kayko - I'd get one in a heartbeat! LOLOL :p There was an excellent website that explained all the differences between the Yorkie and the Silky, but now of course I can't remember the link :( |
1 Attachment(s) Here also is another picture of a little Silky that I found online...I just love this picture, he is sooo cute!!! :D |
I think both breeds are just wonderful, so you can't go wrong :D |

A friend of ours had a silky (he wanted a yorkie/she wanted a silky). She was cute, but she seemed more timid then Mojo....course, I am a big believer that that isn't the breed, it is the way they are raised! She was longer, bigger and had longer, thinner hair then Mojo. She had a bigger head that seemed much longer (especially the nose). Her body seemed very long on short legs. She was a cute little thing, nontheless! I've had people ask if Mojo was a silky......but I personally do not think he looks like one, but if people don't know the breeds, they just don't know, I guess. I love the yorkie breed, but I love any dog! So, it is all your personal opinion! Good luck & congrats on getting a new furbaby to spoil! |
i have a lady down at the end of my street who has champion silky's and they are beautiful. i could not tell them from a yorkshire terrier. they look the same. all of hers are about 5lbs. she still shows them and are unbelievable beautiful. |
MY neighbor has a female. She is adorable and loves Buddy. Buddy is bigger! You can't go wrong with either. Good luck. Carol & Buddy |
I personally feel that yorkies are cuter and silkies are more elegant. JMO :) I like both breeds. |
