scratching Hi all, I'm writing because my yorkie has started to scratch his neck and lower back. We have looked for possible fleas or ticks but nothing was found. Anyone knows what else could it be? Thanks a lot |
My little one has allergy problems and when she begins scratching we take her in for a allergy shot. We also have to use a special shampoo and the vet recommended bathing her with it at least once a week. |
That could be it! My husband did say that Neo's skin looked very dry the other day, I will call the vet tomorrow see what he thinks could be wrong, Thanks a lot |
If you've had the heater or a fire in the fire place alot lately that can cause dry skin (which brings about flakes and/or itching). The vet may recommend a supplement (like omega oils or fish oils) and/or a special shampoo or conditioner ("cream rinse"). We're dealing with dry skin and itchies right now because of all the dry heat in the house. |

I use grizzly salmon oil on chester squirt a little on a bit of wet food, it has helped his itches |
bella has really bad allergies....i tried oatmeal shampoo, but that didnt work much.....hopefully someone will have advice for both of us!! i dont use conditioner, i wonder if that could be it???:rolleyes: but i did just buy missing link.....havent recieved it yet.... |

I can't say for sure that the food or shampoo stopped the itching, but we tried a bunch of different things and the itching subsided. Anyhow, we switched to Nutro. We mix a bag of Chicken Meal Rice & Oatmeal with a bag of Lamb Meal & Rice Small Bites. The shampoo we recently switched, actually after the itching stopped. But our Petco groomer recommended Tomlyn Nova Pears Medicated Coal Tar Shampoo and the Mosturizing Cream Rinse by the same company. In retrospect, if anything stopped the itching it was more frequent baths. I used to go 1-2 months between, now I go about 3 weeks. Good luck. |
Dogs need Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Just feeding dry dog food is the worst thing you could do. I put cod liver oil in my dogs food each day. ( I cook for them also) Also make sure you use a very gentle shampoo and rinse, rinse and rinse again. Use 1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar to 1 pint of warm water for the final rinse. It takes out any remaining soap and is a natural flea repellent. The best is Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap. It's gentle enough to use every day and gentle enough for a newborn baby. You can also bath and shampoo in it yourself. He has some with eucalyptus tea tree or Lavandin& Lavender. These scents keep fleas off too. He has a new line out called Sun Dog's Magic that I'm anxious to try. i just ordered missing link to put in her food, does that have omega 3 and 6? if not what is the best way to give it to her???? |
Sorry about the double posting. Something is slow and acting up. Well as for the missing link. Look at the ingredients to see if Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are in it. I use Dr. Pitcairns HEALTHY POWDER. You make it and keep in refridgerated but I still have to give the fatty acids as I'm sure the missing link would be the same way. |
Missing Link does have Omega 3. |
