Boy VS. Girl Yorkie Okay I'm thinking of getting a yorkie but I can't decide if I want a boy or a girl... I was thinking of getting a boy at first but then I started to think that if I had a girl yorkie than maybe one day we would have baby yorkies all over the house...:) But the second thing that I though was that in order to have baby yorkies I needed to get both boy and girls..... So can anyone help me with my decision?? So what shuld I get a boy or girl? and How Fast do they grow? |
When i was looking for yorkie i wanted a girl but then i found sunnie and fell inlove, if you get a girl then later down the road you could jsut pay for the stud fee. but when u find that special puppy you will know. the males tend to be more clingy to their owners and females tend to be more distance. |
the disadvantages of getting a boy is that they mark their territory more then the female does...the advantages of getting a girl is that they are less agressive then the male...i dont know if this will help...but let me know on your decission  |
Welcome to YT!! There is LOTS of information you should know before you even start to think of possibly breeding one day. First and foremost is that if you think you might want to breed one day you need to start with a breeding quality yorkie. You need to know the lineage (whether they have championship bloodlines) and the medical history dating back at least a few generations to ensure that you will not produce genetic defects. Please gather as much information you can on Yorkies and breeding and do your homework. It might be easier if you're thinking of wanting more than one to start with one and then just add on. Breeding is not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of work and a lot of money that goes into these little guys. Good luck with your first yorkie, whatever you decide. |

We have a male and he is also the sweetest thing you would want. he has marked his spots but he is a lovable dog and loves to be near you. |
I have two females, don't know exactly why but regardless, when you see the one for you, you will know. There's a bond that makes the sex unimportant. I felt I wanted girls because little boys mark their territory but that probably isn't necessarily so. |
I have both boys and girls. I never thought I would want a boy because of the marking and humping issues. But then I saw Scampers and couldn't resist. I am so glad I got him, he is my baby boy!! I still prefer girls because I love dressing them up and their are sooo many cute girl outfits out there for them. The other advantage is they don't mark or hump like boys do. But some females do hump and mark, not all but some do. I have noticed that my boys are more loving though than my girls. My girls are loving but my boys are little cuddle bugs. And they have never been aggressive and marking and humping hasn't been a problem with my boys. I love both my girls and boys and I think when you find the right puppy, it won't matter whether it is a boy or girl. |
I have 2 girls & were getting a little boy this week. |

I have a boy and a girl... my boy, Tootie, has never marked and is the sweetest cuddly thing evr.... My baby girl, Hopey, is the sweetest thing and I love to dress her.... I wouldnt give up either of them for anything! There are goods and bad to each sex I beleive. I find that girls are more agressive and want to RULE more than the boys do... I have 5 dogs total, 3 girls and 2 boys... d |
After fostering a lot of Yorkies over the years, I decided on adopting a female. My foster boys always had to wear belly bands while in the house. I love the clothes available to little females and I love pink things mainly because I had 6 sons and no daughters. Now I have my two daughters. |

I have a male and a female. The female can be very moody and she does what she wants to do when she wants to do it. I do have problems with the male marking, but he is just an absolute sweethart. The female is more resevered and quiet; the male is constantly on the go and wants to play, play, play. The truth is, however, they are both great! Wouldnt trade either of them. Good luck in your search. |
I have always had girls in the past and I got my first male 2 years ago. The girls are much easier to train all of mine do several tricks. The male only knows 2 tricks and comes to me when he feels like it. Even though he has never been whipped or scolded for not coming. I just have to tell him to stop and then I go pick him up and carry him into the house while we have a nice long talk about his behaviour. He does mark, where-ever he goes so he has to wear belly bands if we go out to visit. One of my female yorkies is not spayed and he is not fixed so this may contribute to the marking, Im' sure. But to me females are the best. They mind and come even if they know they did something wrong. I don't scold them if them come to me but we do talk about it. and My boy is more standoffish than my female, She is a bundle of evnergy and love. He acts more cat like and will come to you and play with you only when he feels like it. My girls are never satisfied and always want more attention even when you have just finished playing with them for over an hour. They are non stop. Good luck with your decision. |
