Harness or Collar Which is better? I have been using collars on my girls when walking them, but they don't pull. I'm getting a Yorkie baby Monday, should I get a harness? |

I use harnesses on mine. I think its safer. You know these little ones are small. Mine pull and even though they are 5 & 7 lbs I still think its safer to have them on a harness because of their tiny necks. |
I use Harness DRESSES all the time - several people make them and my girls always have one on when we go out. I have trouble putting on the little regular harnesss so the Dress Harness is perfect for us and SO cute on....the velcro holds very well - I have yet to have any come undone and my girls are TOMBOYS lol - if you click on my signature link where it says spy girls - you can see examples of the harness dresses |
I will only use harnesses. After having 3 yorkies with Collapsed tracheas I do not want to put any unnecessary pressure on their delicate necks. I lost my last Yorkie, Gracie at 6 1/2 years of age due to complications of .a severely collapsed trachea. I do not even own collars. There are so many great harnesses for them now. Chattiesmom makes great silk ones that are easy to use.JMO |
i use only harnesses,,dont even own a collar |
I use the harness dresses :) |
From everything I have read Yorkies should wear harnesses . Their throats are very delicate and the pulling on it while walking on a leash could do damage to the treak. I have only used a harness and Buddy wears nothing in the house. Carol & Buddy |
Harness all the way. |

Harness is the way to go. They have so many cute ones too. ;) |
I've used both & prefer to use a harness, because of the throat issue. But can someone tell me please how you prevent the harness from making a dreadful tangled mess of the coat? I've bought several different styles over the years & every one of them has caused her coat to go into a horrible tangled mess across her shoulders. It isn't as though she wears them for hours! She's nearly 12, with a heart condition now, so can only do very short walks but still we get the tangles.... we spend ten minutes walking & an hour untangling afterwards! She has a really good coat, very long & silky, & this is a nightmare!:( |

NOW I'm using the Crown Royal Detangling spray and really like it - KathrynV was going to sell it but I haven't seen it on her site yet - you may want to ask her about it - it really helps get out the tangles |
I'd never thought of using a spray before putting the harness on, thank you for that tip. I do sometimes use one after to help detangle. Not sure if I can get the ones you recommend in England, will have to check:) |
I put a collar w/ a bell on Lillie when were home and she is running around, just to help prevent any accidents. But when we go for a walk I use the harness, or she has harness dresses I use. |
Gracie only wears a harness vest that Connie custom makes for her. She has several. They are very cute and Connie is VERY reasonable! |
Yes, there are harness vests for boyz - I think I bought mine from Shana - it is in blue camo - Rowdy looks GREAT in it! :D I need to get one for Rexy too! |
Well Gracie is a girl but she just wears a vest. Connie charges me $10.00 for her vest and $1.00 for shipping. |

Prayers going your way Connie for your Mother. I went to Pet Smart and found a vest harness. They wanted $20.00 for it & $20.00 for the matching leash. I thought that was high. I'm still looking... |
