Thin Coat???? Help please!!!! 2 Attachment(s) My Tinkerbell is beautiful but she has a thin coat, What advice do you have to offer me.............Should I shave her? or is that the way she is meant to be?? When she was young one vet ( in Korea) suggested I shave her coat, so it would grow thick  I thought it was cruel, since she was so tiny and Korea is soooooooooooo cold, but now I have doubts:confused:. She is 13 months and still has a thin coat, should I shave her or is it too late?? I want her to have a thicker coat(more hair) her topknot is so tiny:confused:. |
Awww, I think she's GORGEOUS. Mazie's hair is VERY thin and fine, as well. I hear you on the topknot thing. Mazie has just barely enough to even be able to make a ponytail out of...and then everytime you take the band out, of course it pulls out some of her few, precious hairs! :( KIKI, on the other hand, has HAIR TO SPARE! :p |
Yes, exactly:( , I hate it when her little hair come out:(. Thank you on the complement:p |
Nooo, don't shave her, she is perfect the way she is!! Shaving her doesn't neccessarily mean her hair will grow in thicker. It stays the same. If you have a puppy and you shave it, the hair may appear to be thicker but really it is just the adult hair coming in. Her hair looks real nice to me, it doesn't look to thin. But if you are worried about her hair, consider her diet. Is she on a good high quality food. Do you supplement?? There are some great supplements out there that may help her hair. Is she spayed;thin hair can be a hormone problem. My Destiny has thin hair, it isn't too thin but I am used to my Scampy's thick coat. I think Tinkerbell looks great and if she is not balding I wouldn't worry about it too much. You can talk to your vet on some things you can try but shaving won't make her hair thicker. Oh and I love her coloring!! How old is she?? I think Destiny's head will look like Tinkerbell's once all the black grows out. Tinkerbell sure is a doll!!! |
Awww! I just have to tell you - that Tinkerbell is SUCH a little doll!!!! :D What a sweet face! |

I dont know if shaving would help but i think she is absolutly georgeous the way she is! I say do the best you can with what she has! |
I think she is BEAUTIFUL!! Dawn |
Thank you guys, I also think Tinkerbell is beautiful:p , but no one on here has tried that method? No one has shaven their baby?? Someone mentioned supplements..........what about shampoo? |
She is beautiful! Teddy has thin hair like that. I keep him in a short cut and I just make sure he has a warm coat or sweater on when he goes outside. Right now since it is so cold I am keeping a t shirt on him in the house. I don't think shaving her would be a good idea. |
Tinkerbell is so cute and I see nothing wrong with her hcoat either! Zoe has super fine hair too but I would no way shave her, especially during the winters. I think coat thickness is in their their genes but I'm sure supplements like missing link sure help make her coat much shinier etc. |
Shaving does not effect roots and make hair thicker; it only appears thicker, and as soon as it grows out, it will look thin again. Some dogs take up to two years to get their adult coat. Although I haven't used it, many members highly recommend Missing Link as a dietary supplement, and is said to improve coat texture. Do a search on "Missing Link" for more information. I think you can buy it at Pet Smart. Your baby is very striking. |
Don't do it! If her hair is growing slowly now, it will grow oh so slowly after you shave it too! I speak from experience. It took me forever to grow Ginger's hair out. When it finally got long, I HAD to shave it because her allergies were so bad she was literally chewing patches of hair off  . Anyway, even with the allergies under control now its been months and she still has a very short coat (and I'm sure it's coming in everybit as thin and fine) Your baby is beautiful. |
Thin hair Hi, I think Tinkerbell is beautiful. My Mollie's hair is thinner than hers. I think it is in her gene's. I keep a t-shirt or sweater on her when it is real chilly. I have been using Missing Link and I think it helps. We will see. Her coloring is changing. She is getting more silver on her. To me, she is precious. Jan |
You're Tinkerbell is beautiful! I have two girls who are complete opposites. Abbie has very thin, very fine hair and Lucy is a thick mop! I'd love to know how to thicken up Abbie's hair but if that's not to be, then I guess I'd like to know how a thin-haired baby looks with a short puppy cut. I should mention that along with being thin coated, she's very thin, so thin I can feel her hip bones but the vet said that although he doesn't want to see her lose any weight, she's healthy. So, what do you think on a puppy cut for her? My groomer said she thought it would just make her look more scrawny. |
