What's my puppy going to look like???? hello ! I have a 4-1/2 month old yorkie puppy. I have a question about her appearance. I guess she is going to be a "silky" from what I read. But her hair is really black on the tips and grayish/silvery on the roots. Her head has a lot of blonde in it. My question is... once I get her groomed, does that mean she isnt going to be black anymore?? It looks like she is going to be almost silver in color! Also, I have a yorkie-poo and I like to keep him short cut (I call it the puppy cut).. and I want to do this with my yorkie puppy. Does anyone have an older silky with short hair?? Not the kind down to the ground I see in pics? Thanks so much! |
Well, you never really "KNOW" for sure what they are going to look like - but I can pretty much bet that if you see nothing but silver roots underneath the black, that she is going to be silver - and whether she is going to be a light or dark silver, I have no clue. My Stedman was of course all black, but at 4 months of age, ALOT of his silver started showing through (roots) - and when we had him groomed for the very first time when he turned 5 months months old - I got my baby back, and he wasn't black anymore :p He was ALL silver (a darker, steel blue silver color). He is 1 month shy of a year and that is still the color he is today (which I LOVE I might add) ;) Also, my little guy is in a puppy cut - well his face is anyway. If you want - search my posts and you'll find lots of pics of him - that way you'll get an idea of how his hair is cut :) OR - you can always just look at my avatar, lol :p |
4 Attachment(s) I don't know if this will help you any, but i have a few pics here of Prince when he was born, his mom and dad, ( I got him from a breeder here on YT) him at around 6 months of age and him now at 1 1/2 years. Ok 1st is him and siblings and mom, 2nd pic of his dad, 3rd him at 6 months, and 4th pic is now. Hope this helps! To me he has almost no siver/gray on him now compared to 1 year ago, and has more red. I also have a new female I got for christmas and I am curious as to what her color will be but i agree with stedmansmommy in that you never really know for sure what they are going to be. |
ok, it moved my pics, the one on bottom is of his daddy, and the first three are in the right order. |

Wow!! I had no idea that Yorkies could have that many pups. |
2 Attachment(s) Grayson started off being black with a tan face and legs and his head had grey roots, now he has changed to a all light grey head, blonde legs and face, and his body is a steel grey color. He is stricking. I love his colors, baby blue looks the best on him. I will post puppy pic at 3 months and a now pic at 6 1/2 months Attachment 90472 Attachment 90473 |
Do you mean the one in your lap and the one that is more red (with one paw held up) are the same dog? Wow -- that is quite a change! I am still watching mine change and have to look back at pictures to realize just how much. I don't think I know of any other dog that makes such a dramatic transformation as our Yorkies. |
Wow, all your pups are just sooooo cute!!! I think Shena is going to be silver for awhile after I get her black puppy hair cut! I have a yorkie-poo that when I got him he was a red color. Just beautiful. THen after his first grooming, he came back to me a little blondey! ha ha Still very beautiful, just different colors! ha ha How do you check the avatar?? ( I am very new at this board???) And how do you get those cute little pics that keep changing back and forth to show off your pups??? |

I suspect a blond is in the making. That's the neat thing, you never know about yorkies. But, it's hard to let go of that little black fur. |
