Need your experiences with adding to your Yorkie family I have a 9 almost 10 year old yorkie, and I'm considering another one as a playmate for her and more company for me. Many of you have serveral babies at home - I'd like to know if a puppy would be easier to add to my family, or if an older dog would be easier. What have your experiences been? And since she's a female (unspayed - she was too little and the dr. didn't want to chance it) wouldn't another female be right? Thank you for your help - I just don't want to have a Yorkie "war" on my hands - but I can't wait to have another one either! |
Sounds like your ready for another Yorkie! The only suggestion I would have is how active is your current baby? If you get a tiny puppy, she's going to want to play all the time and sometimes our older ones don't have that kind of patience! Maybe one that's 1-2 years old would be better for both of you, there are lots of yorkies that need to be rescued out there. I would get a female for sure, and take your girl with you when you find one and see what kind of reaction you get with both of them together. Sometimes putting younger ones with older ones help the senior out a lot, it gives them companionship and extra exercise that they need. Good luck...Theresa & The Boys :aimeeyork |
I have two yorkies but my oldest Chachi was a puppy when we bought Jewels. I think that it would give your dog you have now a playmate. Hopefully someone who has an older dog and got a puppy or other dog can give you some imput. My experience has been a good one. My pups get along well together and keep each other company. |
Recently , I ad a new yorkie in the life of Little Zsa Zsa who will be 14 in June. I have had the choice of a 8 weeks old puppy and a 1 year old . She totally said no to the pup , she perfectly accept the 1 year old . In my opinion It would be best to have a 1 - 2 years old female . |
This was kinda what I was thinking. If I got a puppy - they take so much time/love/training I'm afraid that Sabrina will get jealous - or completely take over the puppy and think it's hers. I was thinking about a one year old - wouldn't be too small for them to play, and wouldn't take quite so much training etc., so they may "share" me better. Thank you for your input |
