Shipping puppies I'm interested in a puppy near Detroit. I'm near Reno Nevada. What is the best airlines to ship a puppy that distance? Thanks for any help. Mary |
I have never shipped a puppy, but have heard horror stories about several different airlines, but also good stories about the same ones. Hopefully, someone here can give you a personal experience. How exciting to be getting a new puppy! Nancy M. |

The only way I would ever ship a puppy on an airline is if it was taken care of in the cabin by a flight attendent. |
They won't be able to ship right now due to the temps. They check the temp for the flight day on both ends and it has to be within their limits. All airlines are the same. I would suggest that you purchase a ticket for yourself and fly up to get your puppy. You will pay a small fee, something around fifty to eighty dollars for her to fly back with you in the cabin. |
Oh yes, I forgot US AIRWAYS is charging me $80.00 to fly her home in the cabin under the seat with me. If you decide to fly to get the puppy, you need to call the airlines first and confirm they have room on the flight and get a confirmation number for your puppy. |
If you can get a good deal on a flight to go get your pup, that's what I would suggest. Some airlines will let you carry your dog on free as long as they are in an airline approved carrier. Some airlines charge a small fee to carry on and you must have the health certicate and shots up to date. I saw a lady put a pad down in the restroom on a plane to let her dog potty, then back in the carrier he went. Most flights with no layovers go quick, maybe you can drive 1/2 way and fly the rest. Kodak came on a plane and it's the same in the summer, they won't fly them out if it's to hot. I had to wait everytime the temperature was above 80*s for them to let him fly. He flew in a hour & a 1/2 flight with no problems from Oklahoma to Chicago. Even though people have had some problems, I had a good experience. It might be best to call & check with each airlines on how they fly the dogs. good luck |
All the airlines I called that take pets in cabin, now charge at least a fee of $65.00 on up. The reservations agent said the fee was basically for covering the airlines behind. The average price is $80.00. You need a health certificate that your breeder should supply dated w/in 10 of flight. |
