HUGE scare this morning So I took Rocky out, and didn't put his leash on him for 2 reasons, 1 being that theres snow so he really doesn't run around in the snow, 2 was that he had his boots on and he can't really run in his boots. This is like the only time I didn't have his leash on him, I always put it on him because I'm afraid he'll run, or another dog might run up to him, except this morning for some reason I just didnt. So anyways, I was standing out there with him, trying to get something out of my trunk when he saw a kid across the street..he starts RUNNING! All of a sudden I see a school bus heading down the street:eek: I got soo panicked! I ran into the street (I really didn't care if the bus hit me or not, alls I could think about was him) and he stopped, and the bus stopped about 25ft in front of us. I don't know if the bus driver saw him, or maybe just me running into the street so then she stopped, but whatever the case is, I'm so thankful and lucky and blessed that nothing happened to him. I did have his leash in my pocket, so of course I put it on him right away. So now, even though I always did have his leash on him (except this morning) there will never be ANY exceptions. It was like for that quick second before I got him my life with him flashed before my eyes. I was even tearing up just with the thoughts going through my head. As soon as Rocky and I got back inside, I started praying to God. I know an angel was watching over my baby today:) I just still can't get over how the ONE time I don't put his leash on him, this happens. I guess it was a blessing though, because it taught me to always leash him no matter what. |
Thank goodness you saw him and the bus stopped. I can't even think about that... I always put a leash on Bailey now also, because she will see a bird or a rabbit and off she goes. I even pick her now up before I answer the front door because she runs out on the porch to say hi, and I can just see me having to run down the street in my barefeet and pj's..LOL.. I am very glad everything turned out well, he definately had his little guardian angel watching over him. |

I don't think that would be fun chasing a yorkie on barefeet, :lol tears ...PJ's would be the least of my problems then..LOL |
:) i am sooo happy nothing bad happened to your baby....you both were def being watched over..thank goodness,,,good lesson to learn though, even for me. i always put bella on a leash, but now i will never think its ok not to!!!!! scary how some things happen..... |

I'm glad you can learn from my experience too :) I'd rather have people learn from my mistake, then make it on their own and learn a different way :( That\'s part of my reason for posting this, just you NEVER know what can happen, even if you think it\'s O.K, something can go wrong. I forgot to mention, he hates the boots, but is "allowing" me to put them on, but he always acts like he can\'t walk..and of course after he ran into the street, he acts like it\'s SOOOO hard to walk again  Here\'s a pic of him in his wintergear....the pink boots were a mistake, thought I ordered blue, but turns out he\'s able to rock them! How fortunate that nothing happened to either of you! I'm lucky to have a fenced backyard that my babies can't get out of because it's pitch black when I first take them out in the a.m. It's scary how fast they are! |
How scary!! We live on a main thoroughfare and the few times Sissy has escaped, she ran right into the street. I'm sure my hubby and I looked ridiculous stopping traffic till the other had her in their arms, but you gotta do what you gotta do!! |
i'm so glad everything turned out good, i would have risk my life for my baby too. |
Thank goodness you two weren't hurt! I think every single one of us would do the same thing ... you just don't think of yourself if your baby is in danger! OK, Rocky, don't scare your Mom again!!! :) |
Yes, you are blessed to be safe today. :) I'm glad that nothing happened to hurt either of you. Thank the Lord for our watchful angels! |
thank god you both are ok..i had learned my lesson too, thank god we are ok too,, lexi had ran out onto the street also before i got her leash on and car was coming, well i jump out in front of the car also, but was about 5 feet away. the lady almost had a heartattack. i didnt care about me at that time either.. it was i guess my motherly instint.. lesson learned for me. |
I'm so glad he didn't get hurt. That must have been a horrible feeling. |
Thank goodness he was ok!! I know how that feels Peeka has done that to me to and i have stoppes a few cars it's so scary!! I have Peeka on a leash all the time now to. Glad he is ok |
I am so glad you are both OK. I definately look at these things as a good warning and a blessing. |
Thanks for all your kind words everyone. I really felt bad after this happened, like OMG what could've happened. Reading everyones words on here and how glad you guys are that Rocky and I are O.K makes me feel so much better :) Especially because it still hasn't SUNK IN as to what could've happened to me, only about Rocky. LexieRae, Amber, and everyone else who ran out to get their furbaby, I'm glad you guys are O.K also. It's crazy how you don't even think of what can happen to yourself until after the fact. I probably would've been either dead, or in ICU right now if that bus didn't stop!, but I look at it this way, the bus would've done less damage to me then what it would've to him. It seems like many of us have had this scare :( Bettyanne, I will definitly pass your message on to him! and of course, I would do the same thing in a heartbeat, no questions asked! Just hopefully it won't happen again! |
OMG I would have been so scared!! Glad to hear that things worked out ok. I don't trust Jaxon without the leash - he's gotten out before and he thinks it's a game when I'm trying to catch him. Not fun. |
Rae Rae, I'm so glad you are both ok and so proud to know you. You would sacrifice your own body for that little one! |
Wow, I'm glad you are both okay! We live on a dirt road that doesn't get much traffic, but it never fails, as soon as I have one of my dogs off a leash, some idiot will come driving by twice as fast as they should be. I'm glad the bus driver saw you and stopped in time! |
I'm so glad you are both ok. Sometimes I let Teddy walk from to car to the house unleashed because he has never tried to run off. I don't know if he would run if he saw a bunny or squirrel though. I am having second thoughts about this now. Thanks for the reality check. |

That has happened to me lots... Thank goodness each and every time he's never gotten hurt.. The worst time for me is when my youngest son left the door open and I was upstairs... I noticed the door was open and then started running around asking the boys where Riddick was.. They didn't know, but Preston said in his little voice, Riddick had to go peepee.. I thought I was going to die... Riddick was running around town and I couldn't see him... My oldest son 8 at the time.. Jumped on his bike and went riding around town looking for him.. I was crying because I thought my baby was gone for good... I was calling for him outside to see if he'd come to me.. I called my husband at work and he went out looking for him too.. then a lady asked me if I was looking for a little terrier dog with a red collar.. and I said yes.. and she pointed to me in the direction she had saw him... So Gabe went down in the direction that the lady said and within 10 long terrifying minutes Riddick came running back in the house... I asked Gabe how he got Riddick to come home and he said he did nothing.. He followed Riddick home... That was the scariest day of my life, next to my baby (Preston) getting leukemia.. But that is a diiferent story... I always make sure Riddick is picked up or put in his kennel until all doors are shut..:aimeeyork |
safty first 1 Attachment(s) Just came from the vet and they had Two small breads there who were attacted. big dogs who were not leashed. I also have a friend who let her yorkie out, in her fenced yard where she went out also, and a hawk grabed her baby and she could not do a thing because no leash, I decided I will never let my candy or cinnamon out with out a leash any longer not worth the risk |
