Grease! & I dont mean the musical Help! I'm a new Yorkie mom. We got Prissy from a rescue group after she was retired from a breeder. (I just love her to pieces) She is 3 yrs old. I notice that less than 1 week after bathing her, her coat gets extremely greasy/oily. Is it ok to bathe them more than once a week? Is there anything I can put on her coat to help cut down on the oil production? Thanks!!!!! |
I would shampoo more frequently and make sure you are using a quality shampoo and conditioner |
She probably has a build up from various shampoo's etc. What I would do is wash her 2 times with Pantene for humans and the some pantene conditioner. Be sure to rinse the shampoo out well before puttting on the conditioner. Then bath her only every 10 days with a quality dog shampoo and condtioner. Every 3 months my babies get a "pantene shampoo" and what a difference it makes. Congratuations on your rescue. One of my 6 is a rescue from YTNR. Janie |

Great advice! Also, make sure you mention this when you take her to the vet. It could be a skin issue called 'sebborhea' - which is overproduction of oil in the skin. If that is the case they can give you different food and shampoo. |
Sometimes a thyroid problem can cause your dog to be greasy. Maybe you should ask your vet to run a thyroid panel |
I would highly suggest the #1 All Systems Shampoo. They have one that can be used every day if necessary and great for puppies and kittens. Very gentle and wont strip the natural oil, but will clean any excess oil. http://mjmcompany.com/1allsystems-grooming.htm |
