Scratching around muzzle Hi All My first day and 2 questions. My York scratches a lot around his muzzle..My vet has put him on York-P Tablets which is a form of steroids. I give him 1/2 a tablet a day. When he comes back from the groomers he doesn't seem to scratch until a week later...I'm wondering if I gave him a bath weekly do you think it would take care of this scratching, it's rather dirt around his mouth as opposed to allergies? He now weights 13 lobs. and I'm sure the steroids are playing a big part in this. If you think this would help what kind of shampoo is the best? I know the steroids are not good for him and really want to take a different course of action. Thanks Pocket's Mom |
Cali does the same thing. I have pills for allergies but all they do is make her sleepy. I am taking her in tomorrow to the vet because she has scratched her nose so much one nostril is swollen. |
Hi Patti I would really be interested in what the Vet has to say...I would really like to get him off of the meds...Stay in touch, I'm wondering if dirt collects there,, from food, water sniffing outside etc. I wonder if washing that area more frequently would help. Thanks Barb |
I will let you know what the vet says. This isn't the first she has been seen for this so I may see if they can do allergy testing. |
I just got back from the vet and he said she has scratched her nasal area and now has a bacterial infection, so I have cream, antibiotics and antihistimines for her. I asked him about allergy testing and he said while we could do it he felt that she was too small for the skin testing and we would have to do the blood testing. He felt that since her allergies were more nasal than skin it probably wasn't food. He also said that the test usually comes back with such a big list of things that it is almost impossible to eliminate them all. He said that would leave allergy shots and with her liver condition he wouldn't want to give them to her. So I am going to keep giving her the antihistimines and clear up her infedtion and see what happens. |
