Barking - HELP!!! Hello, my 3 year old yorkie won't stop barking! He just barks at everyone and everything, including me! Also, any time I get up to go into another room or leave the house, he barks and growls and tries to bite me. This all just started within the past 2-3 months. What can I do about this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! THANKS! Karen (and Korey) |
Have you tried the coins in a can? Just put some coins in a can of some kind and shake it when he barks and while doing that say something like "No bark!" As far as him trying to bite you, if he didn't do that before, it is possible it could be a medical problem. Have you had him checked at the vet latley? I sure hope you can get some answers to help you find a solution! Best wishes! |
I have a friend who had Bark Busters come to her home to work with her Yorkies. They gave her a little felt bag that's filled with something that feels like metal. When they bark you throw this bag on a hard surface [it makes a big sound] and at the same time say "Bahhhhh" [like a lamb]. They hate that sound and before long she only had to tell them "Bahhhhh"! Toto recently began using a demanding bark on us and we won't stand for it! :( She would bark if Patrick and I were having a conversation, if we were on the phone, if her dinner wasn't on schedule, etc. Soooo .... I picked her up without a word, put her in the bathroom and closed the door. Not a peep! I left her there for a couple of minutes. The next time she did it I repeated my action but when I picked her up I said "Quiet" without raising my voice and reminded her one more time with "Quiet" as I closed the door. This time I left her longer. The next time she barked, we simply looked at her and said "Quiet" and she quit barking!! :) It was like a miracle and although she forgets sometime and she still has to "do time" occasionally, timeout works for her! Good luck! ;) |

I only smoke in the bathroom when I smoke inside ... she "paws" under the door and waits like she thinks I'll sneak out the back door!! Oh and she gets the pouty face too!! ;) |
that sounds like a good way to let them know its their punishment for not minding. That was great that she learned that fast. My dogs mostly bark if they think something is outside or know something is or if their playing and then they growl more than bark. But its nerve wrecking sometimes when they jump up and run to the door barking and nobody sees or hears anything but them. my worse problem with my two are; they get too excited when company comes in. I just want to break them from that and then I think my girls are the greatest. But thats a hard one when company comes in and starts petting them right away or throwing toys for Kizzy, because she never wants to quit that game. |
Thank you all for your suggestions. I will definitely try them and see which one works with him. :) |
