Anyone have this happen? Jack is 4 pds and I was very worried about him coming around after he was neutered and had his teeth pulled. I had them do bloodwork before the surgery to make sure there were no unforseen problems. He did great but I was just worried about leaving him at the vets overnight so I begged the vet to let me bring him home that night. ( I know them there pretty well) They told me to make sure to not feed him until the next morning so I didn't but around 2 in the morning he started throwing up and was so weak he could not stand! Of course I fed him immediately and he came out of it but I think he was going hypoglycemic. (sp??) If I would have left him at the vets I could have lost him!! Has anyone else had this kind of experience? |
I've not had that happen, but all I can say is "Thank God for a mother's intuition!!!" :) |
Oh geez! Quote:
You were smart to have taken him home ... how scary that must have been ... I am glad everything turned out okay!!! |
o WOW... I am scared to death to have Hopey spayed... I will not let them keep her..... my vet does NOT hvae someone there 24 hours... they go in every 3-4 hours, that may have been too long for that baby! |
We are in a small town and they have someone check in on them one time but there is not someone there all the time. I am so glad he let me take him home! I just had this terrible feeling. I couldn 't leave him! |
Wow how scary that must have been. I didnt havve anything that severe happen. Jewels did shake badly all night when we brought her home and I was glad she was home so I could give her nutrical and watch over her. |
Wow, and after they've already gone since the night before without food?!?! That's insane:eek:! I wouldn't leave a furkid overnight unless they had someone there AND that they were going to give some food. As long as you start with a tiny amount and make sure they're gonna keep it down, they can eat as soon as they are awake (JMHO) I'd be looking for a new vet, myself, as it sounds like they never thought about his size and how quickly they can go hypogylcemic when they are so tiny:( |
When Chewy got neutered he was 4 pounds too... 9He didn't stay over night) I picked him up around 6:00 PM and he was really pretty out of it. They told me not to feed him either till the morning. I brought him home and he slept till around 2:00 AM and then he got restless... I took him out then gave him food and he was so hungry he wolfed his food down!!! I felt feeding him then was exactly what he needed!!!! He was fine. I never had any throwing up! |
Wow, thank God you brought him home. Bobbi is coming home to momma right after too...........after this, I'll make sure!! |
Cali had surgery aat the 24 hour Animal Hospital for her spay and intestinal/liver biopsy surgery and they had her on Iv for 8 hours before surgery and kept her 36 hours because she threw up right before I was to pick her up. If she would have had her surgery at her regular vet I had already told them I would not let her stay overnight as no one is there and they were Ok with tha. I live less than 10 minutes form the ER vet so I knew I could always get her there if needed. I am so glad you took her home and were able to get her better |
