honest opinion please 2,2lbs too small??? I think i am obsessed with my dog...he is 12 months old next week, and he is 2.2lbs, 1 kilo. I am really worried about this...he was not meant to be the tiny type, and i went to the vet yesterday...each time i go she says that he is very tiny... He needs to have his teeth out, and he is also criptorchid...so he needs to be castrated... Yesterday i could not stop crying...:( i am so scared that he will not come round...my vet took him off me to have his bloods done, cause she said that i am that worked up over him, i am making the dog worked up.... He plays, runs around, barkin his head off...he seems to be fine, the vet said his heart sounds fine, but she has run test of a liver function and kidney function... I dont know if i am over reacting, my vet wrote a letter to the breeder saying that he was small, and could she have a blood sample from a litter mate, the breeder refused, and said he is the way he is because he fell down the stairs,( he fell when he was 11 weeks and went into shock, i had to blow in his mouth to get him to breath) I am so worried, any advice, i think that i am over reacting at times, but i dont know what to do.... |
I would trust your vet and sounds like he did all the tests and if your baby is healthy but small he should do fine. Mine isd 5 lbs and I still worry all the time so I know how you feel. |
I agree- if you're comfortable with your vet, trust him. Sugar was 2.7 lbs when he was neutered and he did just fine. I know it's nerve racking- I was scared to death but if you have a competent vet, and it sounds like you do, everything should be just fine. I don't know what criptorchid is tho tell you the truth but I know he will be a happier healthier dog without the problems you could have by leaving the baby teeth in and neutering also eliminates health risks. Good luck with your decision. |
I worry about my Daisy sometimes too.... she is almost 5mo old and still under 2lbs. I know some people would love to have one that small... but I would actually like for her to get up to 3-4 lbs at least. But as you said... my Daisy looks and acts healthy and the vet says she is fine.... so try not to worry... just love that little baby. |

I can understand why you would worry. Haruka is really small too, and she was around same weight as your dog when she was spayed. It is a bit bothersome that your breeder is not helping you in terms of your vet request to do the blood test... Anyway if you are worried, I am sure you boy gets scared too!!! But remember that you are doing the vest you can!! As others said, trust your vet and.. step by step. |
I just wanted to wish you good luck. From what I read on the little ones they can be quite strong. I hope your little one is. Carol & Buddy |
Many thanks for that...i feel better knowing that there are small dogs like him that have been through this....yes they are his milk teeth....they dont cause much of a problem now, but he cant chew like he should...i think i am just one of them that worries about being worried.... As for the breeder, well that is another story, which i will post another day...my vet says to concentrate on mac for the moment but to send her a letter, which i have just posted off today... Court papers are heading her way, and i have contacted everybody i can regarding this lady, like some said in another post Greeder rather than breeder...money comes before anything... Once again many thanks, i feel much better and at least i know now i am not going mad. |
