Definitly ask lots of questions when buying a new pup. I have a litter and I am surprised at how many offers i have had to buy the whole litter. It scares me to think that someone is out there trying to buy up good healthy pups and then turn around and resale them for proffitt. Not to mention that they dont have the time to care for them as a breeder would. Which is why their pups are more prone to being sick. Good Luck. |

If we really want to put the bad brokers and breeders out of business, then I think we have to accept that the prices will increase which they should. These dogs are worth a lot right now (market demand) and there's nothing "wrong" with that. If you price them high then you know that they are going to people who can afford to care for them properly. Good breeders who really care about the pups and want them to go to great homes can "screen" all they want, but how many actually call the buyer's vets or references to check and see if the person is telling the truth? How many visit their homes before agreeing to sell them a baby? I hate to sound like I don't trust people and I really despise being negative, but I think if a breeder gets what they "deserve", money wise, for a puppy then they are protecting the puppy too. Good breeders sell for profit too and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Frankly, I wouldn't want the job and, and if I did it, I would charge $5,000 for the puppies because you really couldn't pay me enough to compensate me for the stress and worry that comes with breeding. I commend anyone who can do it, and I am willing to pay someone to do that job for me. |
I think for the breeders that produce only a few litters per year and sell their pet puppies the profit comes from knowing you have produced the nicest pup you could be it for show or pet. When a dog has only a few puppies and you haven't cut any corners in maternal care and care of the pups til they are 12+ weeks there cannot be that much monetary profit. JMO. |
