Yorkie Eye Colors
 
Is it true that you can tell the coat of a yorkie based on the color their eyes change in photos? Green eyes = silky coat?

That's what alot of people say...I don't know if it is a FACT though :p :p :p

I don't know but i've noticed in pictures that ZsaZsa had a blue tint in her eyes when she was little and now we get a green tint sometimes. Of course we quite often get a red eye too....... wonder what that means. Just kidding.

It seems to hold true in most cases.
Warmer hues (greens, blues)=silk
Cooler colors (yello, red)=cotton

I took a picture of the girls after their bath last night and they both have the same yellow color...they both have totally different coats.

No, I dont belive this at all, I think it BS. Both my girls have the green color and Bella is Silky and Daisy is Cottony....

who knows.......however, Bobbi has always shown green in pics and he is a true silky coat.

This is not "BS" and many long time breeders and exhibitors will tell you the same. Eye shine color is a very accurate way of confirming a specific coat type. In fact I believe Yorkierose says the test has never failed her, if I'm not mistaken. I am familiar with how it is done and what it means but think someone with more years experience should explain it to you. Here is a link that goes into the scientific explanation.

This is new to me! I thought my pup had a cotton coat, but his eyes reflect green. Maybe it's still too soon to tell as his coat might still change because he's still a pup (only 7.5 months old). This is very cool though.

I don't think this is etched in stone but, it has proven to be true in some cases...however...not in mine..Mine show yellow eye and one has silky and one cottony.

Well I happen to have my own opinion from my own experiences as a Yorkie owner and breeder, I dont happen to think its accurate. I have had several Yorkies in which this has proven false so, in IMHO I think its a Urban legand. BTW thanks for the link, that is an interesting read...
But if you think that is is accurate....thats great and good luck with that. You are entitled to believe what works for you and if it does work, thats even better! I am not here to argue with anyone, just sharing my view on this subject. :animal36

It has never failed me in 33 yrs of breeding...but sometimes I had to wait until a full year to see a true eye flash...and I had to put them in a dark room and use a eye flashlight like the MD..photo's are not always accurate..in a dark room I have been able to see into the iris and the color is quite brilliant in that type situation.

another clue that Abigail is a true silk coat. ;) Her coat looks fabulous the day of a bath - but, two days later, she just looks scraggly.

They may have different coats, and neither one of them be silky.
