itchy baby i have a 12 week old puppy that is always itching away... we nicknamed her thumper-tee hee. when we did the vet check, he said it is from stretching/growing skin and saw no parasites-but I hate to watch her, she will let us scratch or rub for her sometimes and i just feel so bad for her.... there has to be something out there, i saw an old thread on here that talked about some vet's best spray, i bought the only kind petsmart had and it was a hot-spot treatment and stunk so bad that i only used it once and it did not affect her. she will stop playing and scratch for a minute or two-so i know it's uncomfortable... i was wondering do you guys have this problem or know of any other remedies? i was thinking of giving her a bath w/a bit of good conditioner like cc (christians i think) but we are here in co. and the air is dry and I certainly dont want to make it worse???? |
my baby has an itching problem too.....she doesnt have fleas or any other bug type thing. the vet thinks it is allergies. he siggested i try giving her benedryl, but i was not happy with that bc i dont want to have to give her benedryl everyday of her life forever, so i have been looking for new remedies. i now wash her with oatmeal shampoo...that seemed to help a little bit, its supposed to be sensitive for thier skin. also i read yesterday on a post about this supplement called missing link. someone said that it helped thier baby with itching, so i ordered some last night...i will tell you how it works....other than that i am not sure, i still dont have a rememdy:) ...good luck |
interesting... yah i'd be interested to know how the missing link works... |
Could it be a food allergy? Alot of dogs get ichy skin because they are allergic to the corn in their food. |
not sure, i'll have to check the ingredients...? |
don't know if anyone has recommended this or not.. the biggest recommendation I have is brewers yeast..it has MANY benefits and is extremely affordable. you can buy it at wal-mart in the pet section or any pet market. I highly recommend it, I have used it for many years...my cocker used to have very dry, itchy skin and a black coat...so the dry skin was very evident. Once I started her on the brewers yeast, it all cleared up within a week. Our min pin used to shed really bad. REALLY bad!! and his coat was a light brown, very dull. he now is completely free of shedding and his coat is a deep red...beautiful! we bathed him yesterday and we had almost NO hair coming off of him. It is a great product and I would def. try it before going to any expensive extremes. try it for a week and if you don't notice any change, look into other options. it comes in tablet form that you can either give as a treat or add it to the food bowl. your baby will go nuts for it...ours know when we are even looking at the bottle...they start flipping out :) supposedly this and missing link have the same benefits??? not sure..have never heard of missing link before and have never tried it. but i know for a fact that this stuff works. |
We had a sheltie that was itching really bad (so bad she was tearing her fur out). After trying expensive pet shampoos and vet recommended shampoos, I started using Pert conditioning shampoo (people shampoo). It worked right away and her fur grew back. So I use it on my yorkies and they never scratch. Other people I know have tried it, and it worked for them too. It's worth a try.... |
how often and how much of the brewers yeast do you use??? |
you buy a bottle of the tablets and it has the instructions on there. we give it like a vitamin every morning with breakfast. the instructions say 1 tablet per 10 lbs weight. so a bottle will last a yorkie owner quite a while :) we give it daily...all the time. it's not medicine so you are not starting your pup on a medicine that they will need their whole lives, it is like giving them vitamins. and you can stop it any time if you want. we stopped for about a week because we were out and our local pet store was out. and we noticed that rex started shedding again. so we drove to wal-mart and got more. I swear by it. let me know if you try it. I really think you will notice the effects after about a week. |
