general behavior questions Anyone have any thoughts on Alphy's behavior to the following: First - He's pretty friendly for the most part. However, Occasionally , as I posted before, I will find him hiding in my room on my bed if there are people over. It's like he's selective. I feel bad. Second - he loves to cuddle and be held, but he never kissies on me. If my friend, Russ, comes over though, he always wants to be in Russ' lap and petted. If Russ stops then Alphy's little tail wiggles and he squirms himself up and kissies on him until Russ starts petting him again. |
Sometimes dogs will like one sex better than the other. My parents have 2 chi's and when my dad comes home they just cover him up. One on his shoulder and the other in his lap. Feebie will lay with my mom if dad's not available, but she is the disiplinarian and so they run to him. Of course he also used to hand feed them everyday and take them for rides in the boat and anything else they desired. |

My girls both prefer Daddy:cry: And sister. And brother. Anyone but ME:( Maybe it's because Mommies do the evil stuff, like the VET:eek: and brushing, and baths, and cleaning the dingleberries off their butts:p |
Ooops :( Sorry for the double posting. |
Yep, Kodak wags his tail and shakes his butt for everyone but my granny. He was iggin my mom for a long time to, but now he's more open. I think they change their attitudes with the weather. LOL! I did hear they will be more open towards a certain sex. |
My friend has a 5 yr old son that is terrified of dogs and when he comes over i try and help him i let him feed Peeka treats and he does really well but Peeka barks at him and growls at him the whole time he is here!! Peeka has never done that ever also when my hubby comes home from a long trip Peeka freaks out i swear he's gonna have a heat attack from excitement lol |

In the first case, I wouldn't worry about it but I would reward brave behavior on his part. If, for instance, he's been hiding in your room and then ventures out while the dreaded stranger is still there, I'd give him treats. You might also automatically hand dog treats to visitors so they can give them to him. If he learns that good things come from strangers, perhaps he'll get braver. In the second case, all you can do is laugh (and try not to be jealous!). |
So Helpless! I Have a Question as Well! This one is freaking me out! No one knows what is wrong since it isn't health related. My 2 year old Yorkie is afraid of something. He'll be laying on his bed and all of a sudden he'll pop his head up real quick and stare at something. Then he runs off to the corner. He's frightened and shaking all over. He'll keep staring at that area and then get more scared. I don't seem to sense anything at all. I'll scold at the area and tell my baby that its okay. No one has passed away recently in my apartment building...at least not that I know of. Also it'll be real quiet and I'll be sitting there reading a book and he'll pop his head up and go sniff in that general area. Then his tail goes between his legs and his ears fold backwards and he runs off to the corner. It makes me feel so helpless to watch him shake. :( Nothing has been changed like new additions. Furniture is the same setup. I keep the same routine with everything so nothing is out of place. |
my Hopey is afraid of everyone! She runs to me like she is on FIRE if someone tries to reach for her.... she does, tho, huggie-kissy on my girls and hubby, never me.. its like I am her guardian, not her lovey... LOL Billybuff, maybe you should make a change in that area... maybe the "karma" is off.... put something different in that area and maybe the "karma" will lie right.... let us know if it gets better... |
Try moving his bed. Maybe he hears something in the apartment below. I know that when the apartment below us runs the ceiling fan in the room right under my daughters bedroom the floor vibrates. Quote:

Okay, update on my little baby. He's still scared but not as much. I have lived in this apartment for over a year so he never had this problem. I moved some furniture around and so far its still the same. I'd sit there and listen in the quiet room and he'll pop his head up. Perhaps its something that's out the the human frequency? |

I have the same problem too. Siu Pao kisses everybody but me and Mommy is the one who takes careof him from grooming to feeding to cleaning his 'business'. |
Emma goes in spurts of who she likes better-but she does switch back and forth between me and my husband. I am the nurturer, the one that feeds her and grooms her, while he is the one that plays and "wrestles" with her, and also is the "more scary" disciplinarian. (I think she's scared of his "you're in trouble" voice, it's so much deeper than mine!) She sleeps next to my hip all night, and wakes me when she needs food or to potty. Emma will run to me when she's scared or hurt, but likes to test me sometimes too. She rarely tests my husband, and loves to cuddle with him in the evenings. She will not go potty if he's watching, but will go in front of me without any issue. I think this is the "balance" she's decided she needs between us. Sometimes she likes him more, and sometimes me. I think it's ok-it's just like kids wanting Mommy or Daddy more in phases. I'm sure your little guy will come around, he's probably just in a "Daddy" stage right now. |
Its back again Spikey is back to being scared again. He'll pop his head up then runs off the a corner in a scared state. He's so scared that he's shaking. Til this day we've checked everything. No rats or rodents running in the walls. No noises. Nothing. He hasn't eaten in 2 days nor pooped. Not sure if going to the vet would help since there's nothing physically wrong with him. It's all psychological. Perhaps someone like a "Cesar Milan" would help? |
