pup is driving my 2yr yorkie crazy
 
so not only did i end up with a pretty dominant yorkie puppy at 11 weeks, she is smart-lol. She will see that my older yorkie wants nothing to do with her roughness and so she will grab a hold of the older yorkie's hair and hold on -usually on the face/beard area :(
the older yorkie comes to me w/her eyes all squinty and teared up-i know she's not crying, but you can tell her hair being pulled is botherin her eyes... and SHE IS SO MATTED!!! ahhh-
i been trying to keep an eye on them and let the little one know that first of all, i'm in charge and 2nd of all that i dont approve-but she could care less.
i am thinking of getting her into puppy socialization classes before it gets out of hand-but did you guys have this problem? my older yorkie is looking at me like"save me" and unless i just watch them like a hawk, there isnt much to be done (she is pretty submissive)
any thoughts? i know they will love each other one day :(

The puppy is a baby and doesn't know better yet - Cheri did the same thing to Chanel who is 2 years older - I spent alot of time holding Chanel to save her from the evil biting puppy lol - but they DO Grow out of it.....

Cheri loved to grab Chanels braid and hang on while chanel was running lol - they worked it out and once Cheri got a little older they play very very well together - no more biting. It's a puppy thing.

I'd try to pay lots of attention to your older girl - and get that hair up if you can -

here's a picture of what Chanel had to deal with :eek: :eek: you can SEE who is getting the rough treatment :eek: :eek: the baby had a blast and she was just lucky Chanel didn't kick her little puppy butt lol -

you may want to get a tin can with a lid and put some coins in it. when the puppy is mis behaving, shake the can and say "NO" this usually stops them in there tracks.

Another idea, I use a water squirt bottle and when the pup is mis-behaving, squirt the puppy and say "NO"

My problem is when I come home from the groomers with our older yorkie and our puppy attacks her and pulls out her topknot. Reesie is so good with her. She just lays down and let's her chew. I don't know how to stop it and I hate paying those high grooming costs just to come home and not even be able to enjoy how pretty she looks. I know this is only temporary. They really love each other.

It's all about disipline! If you allow this to happen, she thinks she is in control and you are letting her get away with it. Remember, your the "big dog"

:) Isn't it amazing how tolerant the older ones are? We have a 12 y/o mix, "Mozart" (maltese/shih-tzu/silky), who will let Abigail do ANYthing to him. I used to 'save' him from the evil Yorkie pup, because she would jump jump jump in his face. When she was a 2 - 3 lb pup, she'd grab hold of his tail and let him drag her. lol I'm sure he thought he'd been infested with 'Yorkies'. :eek: All it would take is one little nip from him, and she'd be put in her place, but I guess he knows her place is: Alpha female! We do have to let them find their own social order. When Mo just can't take it anymore, he'll hide from her.

Even 2 years later Chanel and Cheri have a game called - "GIT MY FACE".... it's so cute and they love playing it but it all started when Cheri was a baby just like in the pics I posted - Chanel will smack her down now if Cheri is too rough....gently of course - they love each other

I have rasied dozens of puppies and one trick I used with any "too rough" adult to leave a puppy alone, is to spritze them with Bitter Apple...it also works the other way around...spray a bit on the back or ears of your adult...pup will learn real fast to back off and not grab a mouth full of hair..most of my adults get up on the couch and the puppies can not get to them...good luck

PS..most mother Yorkies do not tolerate non-stop pestering from their babies..they growl or smack them on the nose..

wonderfull suggestion! If I ever get a playmate for Lillie, I will def try this!

Great tip. Thanks! I was amazed in how tolerant Reesie was when we introduced her to our new baby. She is very patient in letting Abbie chew, but she does have her limits also and will let Abbie know to stop without hurting her. What's funny is Reesie is almost 11 pounds and Abbie is 5 months and only a little over 3 pounds, but Abbie attacks her like she's the same size as Reesie. Reesie could really hurt her if she wanted to, but she just takes her paw and pushes her away. She's our tea pot size baby but I wouldn't change a thing.

I love your pics. I can't wait until I can braid the topknot. Does she leave it in or does she pull it out? Reesie will only leave her hair up for a little while then she pulls it out. I don't know how she sees. We made the mistake of cutting her bangs. I will never do that again. Any hair tips?

LOL both love their hair in bows. they really love it

Hair Tips - let's see - I've only had experience with my 2 but this is how i got them used to it -

start with not too tight and not too loose bows. Don't use something too 'fun' looking or they'll try to grab it off each other if you have a puppy - stick with simple bands or scrunchies -

never force it on them - Work with their hair a little everyday.... with only small amounts of hair to start - as they learn to sit better - add more hair .... if you see the eyes slanting or REALLY wide open :eek: - it's TOO tight :D :D lol....

Thank you for the advise.:) We sit Reesie on our bar stool to fix her hair so it's very routine for her and she doesn't mind us fixing it. It's after we fix it that she gets tired of it and rips it out. Or our puppy attacks it !!

I know what you mean about the eyes slanting. I had to tell our groomer to go easy on the tightness. They get carried away sometimes .:eek:

hehehe....Mozart is 25lbs to our Abbie's 6lbs, and she does the same thing! But, he won't even push her away or anything. Once in a great while, he'll give her a warning *gruff* - which she happily ignores.
