I love my Vet.... You know , WHen I read all of the posts about the costs some vets charge and how people are treated I have to say I love my vet... I live in a pretty rural area of Utah and although they are small animal vets they also take care of the old ranchers around here so they are used to niggling on the prices. The last litter of pups I took my pups in for their checkups and had dews and tails done, He did not charge an office charge, 8.00 per dog and checked over mom too. As he was cutting the tails he told me to pay close attention because he said after I seen how easy it was I would want to do it myself. He even sent me homw with some surgical scissors, clamps and silver nitrate sticks ( for bleeding ) for free. He is never condescending to me and treats everything I say as if he is talking to someone on the same level with him. If I am wrong he explains how etc. He is also a yorkie owner so he is very helpful and knows hte breed well. just a thumbs up to my vet! Bonnie |
Good for you! I love my vet too and I think it is a blessing for those of us who can say that! My vet is a small town vet too - she started out being strictly small pets, but when she moved here, she became a farm vet (everything vet). She has shown my things to do, helped me over the phone (free), gotten me in when booked up, is glad to see me and talk w/ me - no question is ever stupid and no concern is ever silly, and has given me discounts and free services too. I just love her to death - now, some of her staff --- that's another story! Ha! I wouldn't know what to do w/o her! |
Yep I have called my vets they sent to big Iv bags of lactated ringers , needeles etc and the cost was their cost at 6.00 for all of it, A few years ago I had a shih tzu that the prev owners had fed catfood to her entire life. She ended up with bladder stones on NEW YEARS day. I took her in and even though it was a holiday they fixed her up and sent her home the next day at a cost of only 90.00. This included the clinic stay, surgery and xrays and all |

I live in the city so we don't get quite the same amount of attention that you might get in an rural area, but I think my vet is the bees knees too. We found him out of desperation when another vet almost killed (very litteraly) our Greyhound. We called the lady that runs our rescue group and she go on the phone to a bunch of people in order to find us the best vet in the area for Greyhounds and we rushed over there (after my husband almost punched the other vet out, just imagine me sick with worry and crying trying to get a dying Greyhound to the car while dragging my very angry husband out after me and telling the vet to just shut up and quit making excuses.) We finally got our baby to the other vets office and he was able to save her and has been the best blasted vet. He always gives us discount on his already low prices. The only thing he doesn't do is after hours stuff and that is only because he gets so wrapped up in his work that he can't tell people no and he ended up making himself sick after going nonstop for several years. Hooray for good vets! |
The vet I use now in the city is very, very reasonable and they do horses, so I can use the same clinic for all my animals. BUT, the rural vet we used when we lived in Nebraska was amazing. My old cocker had a spinal problem a few years ago that required lots of office stays, medication, etc, and he only charged us $50 after it was all said and done. That same vet took care of a filly we had that was literally torn apart by a mountain lion, and after a week's stay at the office with 24 hour care, stitches, and two weeks worth of meds for us to give her, we got a bill for $150. That would have cost us thousands at a city vet. Rural vets are awesome! |
There are a few downsides but not many to rural vets. I sometimes have to suggest tests or treatments if they dont seem to suggest the things I have heard. SOmetimes they have and have opinioms but usually they try their cheaper way then if that doesnt work he then tries my usggestion that sometimes work, sometimes not Bon |
I'm here to say I LOVE my vet also. We're in a small town and he handles large and small animals but his love is the small ones, I believe. We've been going to him since I got my first dog after moving away from home (18 years ago) and he has been nothing but wonderful! He had the longest heart-to-heart talk with me after I had to put my toy poodle (15 yrs old) down a few years ago and even commented to my dad later when he ran into him at a function that I was such a good "mommy" to that dog. I would trust Tatum's life with him any time! Isn't it great when you find someone that wonderful?!! |
