I have a litle Bissel that I keep plugged in in our mud room. You really have to get the accident up right away or it absorbs and they Yorks will continue to pee. The best thing you can do now is have a professional cleaner come in and steam the carpets. Ask if they have something for pet accidents. Elaine. |
My mom and I were talking about this over the phone and she said to pour arm and hammer baking soda over the spot when she pees on the rug. It immediately starts to pick up the urine and when it drys, pick it up with the vacuum. I did this and she did not go in that spot again. She does really well on the pee pad, but she does make a accident once in a while. So if you can stand to see the white spot on the rug for a half a day or so, give it a try. Worked for me. |
I heard that white vinegar works well to get the smell out - I don't know though, I would think you would then have a vinegar smell, but maybe not because people use white vinegar for a lot of different cleaning areas. Be careful w/ wood floors too though. We have would floors on the main floor and second floor in our house and pee can soak down the seams and into the cushion pad beneath. Our bottom floor is just concrete that is stained/painted and we love it! Good luck! |
Thanks for all the replies. We will try a few of those. |
I hope you get a solution for your problem, I dont have carpet on the lower level which is where my babies stay most of the time:rolleyes: I would love to get an area rug but am afraid it might start to smell if they do have an accident:( |
I just read in a magazine this morning that a lady used Citra-Solv (an orange oil-based cleaner). Said she tried everything - from high end cleaners for urine to old household tricks and this was the only thing that worked. --course, this was in a magazine, so you never know. |

Thought about wood laminate, but I think if the dogs pee, the urine could go through the boards and ruin them. Thought about tile, but my house has heating problems and is sooo cold as it is. Am I just stuck with stinky carpet??? Ideas anyone?? |
Boy do I know what you mean.. I have purchased a Spotlitfter from Bissel ..workes pretty well in sucking and cleaning up messes. The other day my daughter told me my house smelled cleaned and just not covering up the smells YIPPIE |

I tried this stuff the other night and it worked really well. My totally housebroken German Shepherd peed on the floor. Im still in shock and the smell was just horrible. It was there all day long because he did it when i was at work (i felt bad he really must of had to go, he just doesnt pee in the house). So I got a scrub brush and this cleaner and the smell and stain is gone. http://www.naturessunshine.com/produ...?stocknum=1551 I also use something called Anti Icky Poo, its a little pricey at 17 a bottle but it works really good though. The only reason I tried the other stuff is I ran out of icky poo. I think I might like the Nature's Sunshine cleaner better. Its also better for the enviroment. |
