Help Yorkie is CRYING & CRYING Ok I bought a playpen from Wal-Mart.com and I just put Bailey in there and he has been in there for about 15 mins and then I went take him out because he didn't stop crying  What should I do just leave him cry until he gets use to it like he did his night time crate?? |
Jewelina did the same thing the first time in her pen. She wanted to get out and play and did not want to be in her pen. Not onyl did she cry but she also howls like a wolf, head up to the sky and everything....the howling was funny for about the first 2 minutes  Anyway, what I did was I'd stick her in her pen and sit next to the pen with her and talk to her but I'd never stick my hand inside of the pen. Kind of like letting her know it was ok to be in there and I was right next to her so she had nothing to be afraid of. After that I'd scoot a little farther away and sit there for about 10 minutes and then I'd take her out for a little bit. The next time I put her in her pen I'd go back to the last place I sat, farther away from the pen and sit there and talk to her then I'd move a little farther away and sit there for 10 minutes and then I'd take her out. I kept repeating about 4 times. The next time I just left her in the room for 20 minutes and then I went and got her out. Everytime I'd increase the time longer by 5 minutes. She now will whine the first 3 minutes or so but then she realizes she's staying there so she calms down and starts playing with her toys. Make sure you have lots of things in there for him to entertain himself so he doesn't get board and be consistent with the "getting out" section in the beginning. If he realizes that you will come back and get him he's less likely to throw such a fit. Don't make the mistake I did with Jaden and everytime they cry you go and get them. They'll become so attached to you that they'll get seperation anxiety when you have to leave them. Its better for them to learn while they are young that its "ok" to be by themselves for a little while. That way when they get older they won't have as much of a problem if and when you need to leave them alone. Hope this helps! |
Any acknowledgment of the crying will only reinforce the behavior. That means talking to or looking at your baby, touching your baby, taking your baby out of the pen just tells your baby that if she cries, she will get attention. Gracie still cries if she is locked in her pen and I am at home. I just ignore her until she is quiet, then I go pet her and talk to her. Make the pen a fun place to be, with lots of toys, food and water, and of course the pee pad. Don't use the pen for punishment. In time she will learn to like going to her "room". In fact, when I tell Gracie to "go to room" 9 times out of 10 she will. Her pen is the only place that I feed her. |

i agree... you can't pay attention to him when he cries.. just ignore him.. when is he being quite then you can talk to him or look at him when you pass by.. otherwise you are just reinforcing that he is crying.. and when you put in him and take him out.. dont' make a big deal about it.. it is just something that happens and he will get used to it.. put toys in there that he donesn't normally get so he will be excited to go play with them! |
Thanks for all the comments I had to leave for about an hour so I left Bailey in the playpen but before leaving I observed without actually looking at Bailey how he was doing and he had stop for a little then start crying again so I ended up just leaving :( when I walked back in he was laying in his little lounge chain in his playpen so I guess after awhile he stopped LOL |
