Poor Little Gabby. Gabby had her distemper and rabie shots today. She did ok, but now she is tired, her ears are drooping, and she just looks so disheveled. I feel so sorry for her. Did your babies act like this after their shots? The vet did say that she was very healthy and she could tell that she was a "good eater" ( I don't guess that we felt insulted ;) ). She asked if I was going to breed or spay her and I said spay. She recommended that I start considering it in about 2 months (she is 15 weeks now). How early did you get your yorkies spayed (if they are old enough). Her assistant told me that everytime they go into heat their risk of cancer rises by 8%, have you heard this. Sorry if this is confusing. |
YES, very common for them to feel yucky after their shots. She should be good to go and feel better the next day. I have been told that with spaying it depends on their size. The smaller ones 3 pounds or so is better to wait until they are atleast a year. All because of the anesthesia (sp). Schatzie is 5 pounds at almost 6 months but I personally am going to wait until she is a year old. 15 wks to me sounds a little young for spaying now? But I am not an expert. |
Two months seem to young to me too. I had Maddie spay at 6 months, she was about 5 lbs. My vet like to wait at that age so if any baby teeth haven't fallen out he can pull them at the same time. Maddie hadn't had a heat at that age. Hope Gabby feels better tomorrow, they are tuff little furbabies and bounce back fast.................Cindy |
Yup, after shots, especially when they are young, they will be 'out of it' for a little bit, usually a day or two. Then they'll be back to their normal selves in no time! Gabby's a trooper, she'll be fine soon. |
Well, you all were right (Thanks)! Gabby is fine today, she is running around, playing with Misha, and tormenting the cat. The vet said that she might be tired today, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. We have a 1 and 1/2 hour drive later and I was hoping that she would sleep. She gained some ounces in the last three weeks, and she is getting taller and longer (and growing into her ears, I think). She is starting to look more like a yorkie everyday. |
Yay Gabby! Those little PJs are so cute, we put Yoda in them for a little bit, but now he's addicted to his electronic heating blanket. :) |
Yes that is commom we will be thinking of her as she starts to feel better, i waited til charlie was 6 months old. |
Our vet says 4-6 months for spaying. Glad to hear Gabby is feeling better. Fasteddie: That heating blanket sounds like a winner now just to get mike to think i need one.lol./ |
Oh it's great, kindness_001! They love to lay there and it's great at night. We always set it to low, and when it gets too hot, they just go to another area of the bed. And when they are home alone, it's great for them to have, just make sure they are through the cable chewing part of their childhoods, as gnawing cables can be very dangerous! |
