SARDS in Yorkies My Boomer has an ulcer in his eye which they performed a procedure today to help it heal. He has now become 100% blind and the Dr. thinks it may be SARDS. Anyone experienced this in their dog? It is so sad, he is so afraid to move now that he cannot see. Thank you for your help |
I have never had a dog who is blind but I wanted to drop a line. I am sorry that your dog is now blind. My grandma was blind and now my mom is half blind. I have seen them having so much struggle, so I can understand how hard it might be for your dog. I did a little good search. http://www.blinddogs.com/ this site seems to contain good information. There seem to be groups of people who care for blind dogs. I hope it is helpful for you. It must be hard for you to see him struggle but with your love I am certain that he can overcome his hardhip! |
So sorry to hear about your pup's troubles! Is he blind in both eyes (that's what it sounds like you're saying) or just in the one that had the ulcer? My toy poodle was blind in one eye after an accident with a German Shepherd but he learned to adapt really well. Even kept doing his flippy circles in the direction of his blind side! If yours is blind in both eyes, I'm so sorry. I've heard amazing stories of dogs learning to adapt with the help of their own "guide dog". Do you have other dogs that will learn to show him around? So sorry ya'll are going through this. |
Thank you!! I amjust hoping once the ulcer heals the one eye will be good. Thanks for the website. |

Just wanted to say Thank you for posting this...My parents have a Mini Schnauzer that they adopted...A pet store was closed down and a wonderful woman that does rescue took all of them...so you know where they came from. Heidi has had many health issues for the past 4 yrs one of which is diabeties (sp?)s...she lost her site in her left eye within the past year...just last night my parents took her to the vet only to find out she is now blind in her right eye...she is only 8 yrs old...they love her very much and will not put her down so...this site came at a perfect time for them.. thank you ! |
Thanks...right now it is both eyes but I am hoping once the ulcer heals that eye will be okay. He gets around okay, guess he is use to the surrounds. Yes he has a big brother who he follows when we take a walk. |
