Can Yorkies Catch Our Colds?
 
I have had a sore throat for a week, and now have laryngitis.

Now, I feel like I am catching a cold.

Can Yorkies catch our colds? I don't think so, but wanted to make sure.

Gooood question. I've always wanted to know this too.

They get stomache bugs and infections like us, so why wouldn't they catch a cold?

Yep, they sure can. They can catch ours, and we can catch theirs. Just be careful not to let your little one kiss you in the mouth or vice versa ;)

Wow, good to know. She is my little snuggle bug, and now I need to keep her at a distance.

I know the feeling :( I hated having to keep my distance from Sted when he was a baby and I had a terrible cold. But really, I think HE is the one that gave it to me in the first place - lol I guess we passed it back and forth :p

Yes they can. My son had bronchitis, a week later, my Chelsey started coughing badly during the night, i took her to the vet the next day, and she asked me if anyone in our family had bronchitis, at first i thought she was joking, but she said seriously, they can get it from us, and we can get it from them. A week later i had bronchitis.
I also heard the same can happen with tonsillitis.

That's weird, Starr's vet said no. But then again, he wasn't the best either.

in a word, NO. most viruses, infections, and diseases are species specific. the common cold and flu in humans are species specific and cannot be transmitted to your dog, cat, or bird. they can suffer ailments that resemble a human cold, but it's not and they didn't catch it from you, nor can you catch whatever your dog's got. That's why you don't get kennel cough from your dog even though you've not been vaccinated against it.

that is why the avian flu (bird flu) got so much press, it is transmittable between humans and animals through the environment (ie, no fluid transfer neccessary like rabies), a very rare and unique circumstance.
