shorter on face, longer on body? Here is a dumb yorkie-cut question! :p I love the long-haired typical yorkie cut, but I think that their little faces look so much cuter (just my personal taste!) with the shorter "puppy cut" look. I know lots of people do the hair shorter on the body, and then longer on the head and legs.... ...but does anyone do the opposite?! A little longer on the body than it actually is on the face?! Hope this makes sense to anyone! :p |
Thats what im thinking of doing this time she goes to the groomer if anyone has anypics id love to see them |
Yes I do this. I think the short face is cute and it helps with the clean up on him.lol I figure the long hair in the back is better for warmth. I did a cut on him this past summer in June and I cut in short in the back and kept the face somewhat long. He looked like a little lion. I would roar at him .I know I am foolish but he liked it.lol. I wish I would have gotten pictures of him. I will next time. |
Just did it! After his bath on friday, he had some tangles on the side of his face that I couldn't brush out (I used cowboy magic, and tresseme sp?) so I had to cut them, but I had to cut the rest of his face to make it even. To me he looks like a whole different yorkie! My friends were teasing saying he has a mullett:mad: I think it's OK. He's still my baby so he'll always be cute to me! |
Yes, this is how Stedman's hair is. The hair on his body is longer than the hair on his face. The hair on his body is not "long" by any means, but it IS longer than the hair on his face. I prefer the shorter hair on the face too (puppy cut) but not TOO short ;) |
I LOVE Stedman!!!! I just think he's one of the most adorable guys around! I'm trying to work up the nerve to cut Kiki's hair on her face THAT short! Right now she just sorta has the round "lion's mane" :p thing going on, sorta like a Westie....and I think that's cute too! I know this will REALLY be twisting your arm ;), but...could you post some full-body shots of Stedman for us?! |
Yeah, I love Stedman's cut too, such a great face, might as well show it off. I'm keeping Joey's head and face short for now anyway, but I just love that little part down their backs when they have longer hair. Had to keep trimming top of the head cause he had black tips and silver roots, but I would like to have a small topknot. Just not to sure about the beards yet, makes him look too old. Nancy |
Yeah, I'm talking a medium length...I do like to be able to do a topknot, but for some reason I just don't like it when the beards make their faces look "long". I trim theirs ALL the time....it seems like it grows so fast!! |
4 Attachment(s) Awww thank you JiggityJig and Nancy1999 :) Stedman too got the little "lions face" when he was about 5 months old (his hair grows SUPER fast!) so I trimmed his face up right away because on HIM, it just looked too "scraggly" Here are some full body shot pictures - and I just took these yesterday so they are super recent ;) Also, just for you, Nancy - I included a picture of his "Yorkie part" ;) (see post below this one) There is also one picture of his face/chest...and I added that so that you guys could see how short I keep the hair trimmed on his chest. I can not STAND when it gets long because he wears clothes 99% of the time, and when that hair starts to get too long, it always sticks out of the collar of his shir - and it drives me CRAZY  |

2 Attachment(s) Oh, by the way - I forgot to add that in the pictures I posted above, his tail (hair) is all trimmed up :p Normally it is like this (see pictures below) - but lately, since he has been wearing the 4-legged outfits almost every single day since it's been so cold, I trimmed his little butt/tail because the hair was sticking out the back of his clothes looking all wacky, LOL - so the hair on his little booty/tail is short - for now anyway ;) I can't stand my baby's hair looking sloppy - and that hair back there, sticking out everywhere when he had his clothes on was driving me crazy  So he had a little trim :) Pictures 1 & 2 below show how his tail WAS...umm, lets see - LAST WEEK! lol :p |
wheeee!!!! i love stedman in his camo outfit! where did you get it from? its adorable!!!!! |
I am thinking about doing the opposite. Leaving the hair on the face long having the body cut short and having the legs longer |
Thanks for all the great pictures; I'm saving them for future haircutting attempts. I don't what it is about that little part down their backs, I just love it. Just looked in my haircut folder 90% are pictures of Stedman. Love his little outfits, but his natural coat is so darned beautiful. Your breeder did a great job! Nancy |

omigoodness Stedman'sMommy.... ....what great pics; that helps SO much! Kiki's hair is about the length of his, but doesn't look near that good! :p She is cotton-coated, so it took foreeeeeever for her hair to start falling in that "part". It does look kinda scraggly, and I'm trying to figure out if I'll like keeping her cut like Chachi sd better (short on body, long everywhere else), but I'm just not ready to cut her short again. Maybe when summer gets here. And THANK YOU for the pics of his chest!!! Kiki's has been sticking out all wonky, and it's driving me crazy, but I didn't know whether I could/should cut it short, or try to keep growing it out! Anyway, this will help with Mazie too! She has a silky coat, and I NEED to keep hers long b/c she is so skinny...but I do like keeping it shorter around her face! Soooo, next question...do you cut it yourself?! And if so...how DO you do it around his face?! |
Stedman is PERFECT!!!! I love the way he looks ... |

And I love the Yorkie part too - isn't it just the cutest? :p My husband gets SO frustrated with me because he will go to love on Stedman right after he has been brushed, and I always get after him and say, "DON'T YOU DARE MESS UP HIS YORKIE PART!!!!!!" lol he is like .... SORRY STEDMAN! Daddy can't touch you right now because mommy is having another one of her little SPAZZES over your hair again - lol  :p So yeah...I'm picky pretty about his hair, it's something that I just cannot help! lol  :p :p |

The hair on Stedman's chest just got way out of hand when he was younger, LOL - (at around 5 months of age). And as I said before, he wears clothes 99% of the time, so his chest was usually always tangled (even with brushing every day it would get that way) - so, I decided to cut it shorter and it is much better for HIM to have it that way. Ok and about his grooming - yes, I DO do it myself. Do you REALLY wanna know how I groom his face??? LOL - it's pretty simple really, but not SO simple to do (well in the beginning anyway) :p I sit my butt down on the ground and trim the hair on his face with a regular pair of scissors! LOL. True, the very first time I did it he came out looking kinda silly :p but NOW, I swear I could probably do it with my eyes closed ;) It takes a little bit of practice, but with me - it wasn't a huge problem because as I said before, his hair grows SUPER fast - so the first time or two that I cut it a little uneven, it grew back out pretty quick ;) But, you really DO get the hang of it, and quicker than ya might think! ;) |

Thank you so much for the compliments! :D He is definitely perfect to ME...but the reason I think that is probably due to the fact that I'm his mommy - LOL of course I just LOVE my little man to bits! :p :p :p And ALL of our babies are just gorgeous...every single one of them!! :D |
2 Attachment(s) I'm always clipping and trimming away at my doggies....grooming them myself doesn't bother me a bit...and they are FAIRLY good about it! :D So....do you hold the hair out straight to the sides to trim, or pull it down....or what? How do you do around his ears? Quote:
Here are some from months ago, and of course, she's changed a lot since. (these really add nothing to the discussion, but hey, my arm can be twisted too! ;)) |

When I trim Stedman's hair - I hold it out to the side more. That's how I trim his cheeks though - however, when I trim AROUND his FACE...I pretty much don't have to do anything with the hair except trim off whatever I see that needs to be trimmed - really don't have to pull the hair out to the side, or down or anything - I just kinda go along and follow the hair around his face that needs to be snipped ;) And as far as his ears go - well, I haven't really trimmed them yet, LOL. His ears were completely SHAVEN  the first (and ONLY!) time he went to the groomer - and I wanted to let them grow out and be kinda bushy (I LOVE that look on a Yorkie - I think it's so cute :p) so anyway, they are getting there now, so I really haven't had to do any trimming there ;) And thank goodness for that - because it's just one less thing to trim, LOL :p |
Okay, I am officially really over-thinking this, ha! I keep looking and looking at those pics of Stedman, trying to figure out what I'm doing different! :p And I think it's the hair around (and behind) the ears that is so much longer on Kiki. I cut my own hair too, and I'm very familiar with the "snip off whatever looks like it doesn't belong" approach :D, so I guess I'll keep trying that with the Kikster too. And if I cut too much, there's always that old truth...hair grows! :D (thanks for your kind words on her! She DOES look like such a sweetie-doll in those pics! of course, that's only half the story! :D She's a real tomboy, always wrestling and chasing and messing her hair all up. THose pics are quite deceptively INNOCENT looking! :D) |

Girl - go get you a digital camera and take some pics of that baby girl!!! I will give her a virtual haircut!!! LMAO!!!! :D :D :D It sounds like Kiki and Stedman would get along great - LOL he is ALWAYS wrestling around and chasing the cat - and it NEVER fails!!!! He always does this right AFTER he has been brushed  LOL little mess!!! :p |

Please, pleeeeeeze tell me where you got that outfit!!!! I'm planning on keeping Ginger's hair on her head shorter as I let her body hair grow out again. (I shaved it due to allergies a few months back, but all's well now). Who knows, maybe we'll all start a new trend! |
Update. ;) Okay, I've been chipping away at Kiki's hair! I'm still not totally sure what I'm doing ;), but all the angles of the pictures you posted sure did help, Stedman'sMommy!!! At first I thought I went a little too short, but everytime I look at her sweetie little babyface it just makes me SMILE! I think it really shows off their cute mouths, too, or something! She's not looking quite like Stedman (she doesn't have those great ears, for one thing! ;)), but she's looking like, maybe Stedman's little sister or something! ;) And Mazie, too, went "under the scissors", and got more length cut off her mustache/beard. And I don't think she's ever looked cuter! ;) Thanks SO much for taking the time to post all the pictures for us!!! :) |
