cottage cheese I really want to know everyones opinions on giving my pup a teaspoon of cottage cheese with her dry food. She will only eat when I hand feed her and even then it takes about a half hour for me to even think she's had enough (which probably isn't enough). A girl I work with gives her dog cottage cheese with her food. I gave Kimber a taste and she went nuts over it. Opinions please?! |
i did it for a while with my boys i would start off with a tiny bit so it doesnt upset her tummy |
Thankies :) |
The Yt members recommended here when Kodaks glands were cleaned out. I thought I did something wrong. They told me to give him cottage cheese or yogurt which I did. I give the cottage cheese a couple times during the week, but just a spoonful. He uses the bathroom with no problem, he didn't care for the yogurt.:) |
I give it to mine. Its more like a treat. I just mix a teaspoon of it in their food |
I'm just worried that if I give it to her for one meal a day she won't eat the other meals? I let her graze at home but this week I'm house sitting and can't leave her food down as the other dog will eat it. When I'm at work with her she grazes in her play pen - but no cottage cheese... I was thinking for breakfast, a little "start me up"? |

I hqve given Gracie cottage cheese in her food here and there at times. I found that when I gave it to her she wouldnt eat her food dry for a long period of time. That was the only fall back about giving it to her as a treat with her meal. She would refuse to eat her food plain until she got REALLY hungry! I wouldnt suggest giving it to her all the time just because once she gets use to it u may have a hard time getting her to eat without the cottage cheese. JMO :) |
i prefer to keep treats and meals separate. if i mixed, they'll pick out the treats. they've been known to lick cottage cheese off kibbles and leave the kibbles behind in the dish or on the floor. i'll stuff a kong toy with cottage cheese or yorgurt, freeze it and give it to my boys as a treat. they love it. i'll sometimes wet the kibbles a little to get them to eat their regular meals. |
Totally true - I will try a couple ways :) I just wanted to make sure it was okay health wise! I read about the freezing thing with the kongs. My puppy has the smallest puppy kong and she doesn't chew at it - she licks until she "thinks" shes got it all and then goes on to play with another toy - hahah! But I will try that with some cottage cheese and freezing it! The other dog (a Nova Scotia duck tolling retreiver) goes for her food SO fast it's hilarious. I have to put the retreivers food up on the counter too otherwise Kimmy will head right for the bowl. |

Hi I've been giving my yorkie 1 tablespoon of cottage cheese every morning with his dry dog food since he was 4 months for the same reason, he's 2 and 1/2 years now. He loves it. About 6 months ago I stopped mixing it with the dry food, instead I placed it on the side and now he eats his dry food and saves the cottage cheese for last. When I started him on the cottage cheese I asked my vet if it was okay. She said it was good for him, it's healthy and will also help to maintain a healthy and shiny coat. I'm always getting compliments on my yorkie's coat. It should be the 4% type. Take care, Iris |
I give mine CC everyday with their missing link. They LOVE it!! |

I had some cottage cheese leftover from Christmas so I have been giving my three a bit with their food. The older two snarf it down with their food but my puppy picks it out of her food, licks off the kibble and wants more cottage cheese! That's funny about keeping other dogs away from food - right now I'm guarding Brea's food so the other two piggys don't snarf that, too. :D omega |
Thank you all for your opinions - I am going to try it out and see how it goes! Iris - I hope the CC will do the same for my babies coat as it does for yours :) I don't think I can buy the Missing Link in Thunder Bay - what is it exactly? |
