Brits will get a kick out of this one About 5 years ago I had a British telephone booth shipped over to Missouri from my old village in England. It now sits outside my Gift Gallery. Well they say you can take the dog out of the "country" but you can't take the country out of the dog. My Jack is living up to his heritage because the only thing he hikes his leg on when I take him out for a pee break is the booth. It must still have the scent from hundreds of British dogs. Booths are used for that in the UK like fire hydrants are in the USA. Just thought I would share a pee story. |
lol Good one! I guess the smell lingers forever. Here in the USA people pee in telephone booth and dogs are much better behaved! LOL When I lived in England, we took our dog everywhere with us..they are so accepted as a family member. |
Where in England did you live, were you stationed there in the military? I agree on the family member bit, you can never go into a pub without a dog being there, of the landlord's cat lying on the bar. |

WOW I am shocked that the UK is more dog friendly than US. I thought it would be the other way around. We went walking with Pip in the Yorkshire dales and ended up at a pub in Redmire and thought nothing of taking him in while we had a drink, like you say dogs are treated like another member of the family. I think the US sounds great with huge pet stores and puppy kinderkarten and the like so I thought the US was more dog friendly. I love the story about your phone box Jill. Where I lived in Ripon the row of red phone boxes are still there on the market square. :) |
Hi Trish, It is hard in the US to take a dog in anywhere except if it is a service dog, or you are going to Petsmart or one of the other huge pet stores. There is no way you could walk into a bar with a dog. My phone box is so special, I know that they are going away in England, so this one will be a real relic soon. I keep trying to get a picture of Jack next to it but he won't stand still. I even fly the Union Jack next to the Stars and Stripes. Bye the way I was in Redmire about 18 months ago. |
Uk We lived outside of Manchester for 4 years. My father bred Boxers..and we had a black cocker. Judy went everywhere with us...hotels on vacation.,,but that was in late 50's. We could take Judy to the dentist office also. LOL The first time my mother invited neighbors for dinner they came with their dog. The English are far more dog friendly then us Yanks and I think they are more level headed..we tend to go overboard like the gay guys on ShowDogs Mom and Dads. LOL..not a bad thing, just a bit goofy. |
Hi jill Redmire is lovely isn't it? I lived in Leyburn for a bit. We took Pip for a walk and it included lots of those stiles that are like slits in the stone walls. He was a bit nervous at first but by about the twentieth one he was charging through!! where abouts in UK are you from? I was brought up in Harrogate. Can't wait to see a pic of Jack with his very own phone box :D |
I am a Londoner, born there and then moved to a village called Farnham Common in Buckinghamshire when I was 11. It is about 8 miles from Windsor. I have always wanted a Yorkie because of the heritage and they are so darn cute. I finally have my sweetheart and I can't imagine life without him now. My sister in law is from Yorkshire so that makes it special too. I will try to get a picture this weekend of the "loo" with Jack. |
Hi Jill I know exactly what you mean about yorkies, I couldn't imagine life without Pip. I've only had him since last August but it seems much longer than that somehow........ :D They are cute and have fantastic personalities. I have not had a yorkie before Pip. |
