Suggestions? I keep Toby ( 13 weeks) in my bathroom with a pee pad, bed, food & water when I am going to be gone for several hours. He is scratching the wallpaper off the walls! Obviously I am not there to correct the behavior so I was wondering what I could do to stop him if anything. I have seen some spray in pet stores to keep dogs off of furniture. Does this stuff work? And would it work if I sprayed it around the edge of my trim or floor maybe? |
do you have him gated or the door closed....:) |
Clear deodorant sometimes works for that |
I always heard that if you use those sprays to keep them off of one thing they'll just go after something else. Why don't you try an x-pen or a doggie playpen while you're gone...that way he wouldn't be able to get to the walls but he would still be safe. |
I have the door shut. Do I put clear deodorant right on the wallpaper? Or do I put it on the trim? |
Can you put something against the walls, like some clear hard plastic, plywood or lean a baby gate against? Better yet, can you get a small ex-pen to put in there or somewhere else in your home? If he is tearing up the wall paper with his feet, no spray on stuff or deodorant will stop that. Those things work if he is going after stuff with his mouth. |

I would be afraid to use anything he might get on his feet and then lick off...it could make him sick or something worse. Please try an x-pen or a playpen made for dogs. |

He's probably doing it out of boredom and frustration. Before long it will be barking. |
I agree...invest in an xpen or a doggie crate. it is by far safer than the methods you are talking of and much cheaper than having your walls and floors destroyed. I think you would feel much more at ease. You can get a good crate for about $30 almost anywhere, including grocery stores. Good luck!! |
