To neuter...or not to neuter, that IS the question My puppy is almost 13 weeks old but I'm not sure if it's worth neutering him because I may want to have his puppies breeded in the future. What are the benefits or neutering and what will happen if I don't neuter him? (besides the fact that he can make a female doggy pregnant ;)) |
An intact dog will "mark" his territory well! This means lifting his leg EVERYWHERE, even on your furniture. This is not 100%, but still a LOT more than a neutered dog. An intact dog will "roam" to find a female in heat if he gets outside. And unspayed female is more likely to get cancer. Not sure if this applies to males. Unless you are going to show your male dog to championship status in the AKC, and desire to "improve the breed" by breeding his particular strengths, I wouldn't get into breeding him. Just my 2 cents. |
This is what happened to us. We were not sure either. Then Chester started humping every think in site. His favorite towel, husbands leg. He was peeing everywhere . We could not take him anywhere. It was just awfully. It was like he was never trained to go outside. You will start noticing these trends and believe me. You will make a quick appointment to Vet. If this does not happen , then I guess you will not have to do it. |
If, IF, he starts displaying that behaviour he WILL be getting his "b*lls" cut off ;) |
neutering Unneutered males are prone to health problems as they age also..ask your vet to explain..many have to deal with testicular cancers and prostrate problems. The urine of an intact male has a much stronger odor..I find my breeding males need their belly area washed daily. |
