ears Should I be concerned that my 12 week old yorkies ears are not standing yet? I have had the hair trimmed and they are still not standing. Should I get them taped? Or should I just be more patient?? My vet says "if they don't stand, it's ok, she is still cute...I would just let nature do what it will do". Well, Yes, she is cute. but I want her ears to stand. Granted, I would never go to extreme measures to make them stand but if it is something that can be taken care of very simply without being drastic, I am all for some suggestions. thanks!! :p |
Some yorkies ears just don't stand. You could try taping them but I honestly wouldn't. Your yorkie is a sweetie - enjoy her and be happy she is healthy. Good Luck. |
oh, believe me, I am VERY happy she is healthy. but if there are some simple ways to encourage her ears to stand, I would like to try it. I did notice that once I got the hair cut on the ears, they perked up a bit. So I think there may still be hope. Don't get me wrong, I will love her the same either way...she is a dream come true for me. |
Try massaging her ears...gently rub your fingers from the base of the ear to the tip for a few minutes each time she lays on your lap. Our first Yorkie had one ear that wouldn't stay up and that's what our vet told us to do and it worked great. Good luck! |
you know, I have heard of rubbing the ears and I do occasionaly but wasn't really sure where or how to rub. so...from the base to the tip? I'll certainly try that as well. thanks!! |
No problem...I hope it helps. Remember also that her ears may go up and down while she's teething. |

1 Attachment(s) oh, Tracy, I know you weren't trying to imply that. I understand what you are saying. If they don't stand, no biggie. Just thought I would try. She is quite adorable and I think that no matter what, I am truly blessed. I do appreciate all of the advice. I'll keep you posted as to the status of those silly ears. I have been known to have bad luck with doggie ears. I had an italian greyhound years ago and his ears WOULD NOT lay down. Here's a pic hehehe |
Ben's ears stood nicely on his own. But one of my Sadie's ears was not up at 10 weeks. So I went to the store and bought the Breathe Right Strips and the Eyelash glue to glue the strips inside the ears. It won't hurt them with the eyelash glue as long as the ears are shaved. I had previously shaved the top third of her ears. So, the day I bought the strips I shaved the rest of her ears. I figured that was enough trauma for one day and I would use the strips the next day. Next morning -- both ears are standing up nice and perky! I think it is worth it to help their little ears if they need it. As it turned out, my girl only needed the rest of the hair off her ear for it to stand. But even if she had needed the strips, I would have used those. It is just helping them with their styling. ;) |
I may try to shave the rest of the ears. One groomer scared me because she said that once we start shaving, it won't grow back right. I find that kinda hard to believe...is this true? If I shave the ears down, will I have trouble getting it to grow right later? |
