I just wanted to pop in and say - GREAT QUESTION!! :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: That's a question that I have asked myself more than half a dozen times. Now...to go back and read all the replies ;) This will be interesting!

Well I can tell you that after raising YoYo and being tied to my home and him for the first 4 months of his life raising tea cups is not for me. I am not offended by the term tea cup as it is just a word that describes a tiny dog and that is what they are. Now to breed such a thing and to use the word to sell them at a higher price is something else.

Now if I were to breed for tea cups , yes the cost of them would have to be much higher as the time involved is much greater and the death rate has to be much higher as I am sure some breeders will not take the time as I did with my YoYo.

There are some tiny's that will be healthy but more that will not and the problems may not show up until they get a bit older. One of the signs of Liver Shunt is failure to grow so if you are going to buy a tiny you should insist on a Bile Acid Test to make sure this will not come back to get you. Then there are other problem with tiny's one needs to be aware of.

My tiny YoYo went to a friend and a breeder as a pet for her and her family. I was lucky to find such a great home for him where he is safe and loved. If I hadn't found Chris he would have stayed here with me. So yes as a breeder of yorkies I try hard not to get little yorkies, but when I do I am committed to them 100% and then some.

:thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: Here, here! It does all come down to supply and demand. As a breeder I can testify that you can't guarantee the size of the pup at adulthood. Like humans they all have their individual growth rates. I have a 6 month old bitch who weighs 3.5 lbs at present that I am just praying will have a growth spurt. Her mother was a late bloomer and I'm hoping she will follow suit or I'll have to rehome her. I've done the unprofessional and have gotten way to attached to her already. She's gotten knocked off of the couch by the other dogs and hurt, she can't play with the others and is always on the sidelines. I have to watch for her cause she's at my feet constantly and is liable to get stepped on. I even have to help her on and off of the deck. I don't know why anyone would want a dog that can't jump up on the couch by itself but that's just me. I sell all my babies at the same price unless they have an obvious fault. I have one that was 3 lbs. at 12 weeks but grew up to be only 4 lbs. so you just never know. :) :)

I still don't really see her question being answered.. Do you breeders sell them for cheaper?? Do you have a bunch running around your house, (because you say not to buy tinies from anyone)??? What do you do with the tinies??? Shouldn't they be CHEAPER, since they may come with problems and/or more prone to getting hurt???

Most of the time the tiny yorkies that breeders have are given to family and friends, for sure they are not sold just for money or to people that do not know how to take care of them.

What they are saying is not to buy from a breeder that does this on purpose as they are not putting the dogs first just the money.

Should they be cheeper, maybe but a breeder puts a lot of time into the tiny yorkies they need to keep them several months longer and I am not sure there is enough money to pay for that time.

More prone to getting hurt??? Another reason to place these dogs in homes that know about taking care of the tiny ones.

So if you go looking for a tea cup yorkie be prepaired to pay a lot. The word teacup just about tells you it is going to cost you more......

Yes SashaJade, I consider that an insult and so would thousands of others. I can't see you turning down a smaller one rather it was a rescue or a purchase. Would you have said no, I won't rescue her she's to tiny?:thumbdown So because I want another small one (and I'm speaking for me right now), I'm stupid & brainless? Does it make the breeder stupid & brainless for selling her to me? Supply and demand, if a breeder has a small puppy and they are in the business to sell puppies, so be it. I wouldn't consider them stupid because it's popular, yes stars have made it popular. I'm not parading my dog around like that, he will get the attention regardless because he's beautiful.:animal36 I took on the responsibility to raise a tiny fellow and now I want a tiny playmate. I think I'm pretty smart, because like you feel for your dogs, his heart and mind is just as big as theirs and he loves me unconditionally as I do him. I've gotten accustomed to this small breed and I am content. I have had a German Shepard and a Doberman before. I know people that have bigger yorkies, but I guess I will be stuck on stupid for the tiny yorkie and not the bigger ones.

You would be a great home for another tiny as you already know what you are in for , you have learned what to watch for and your small dog needs a small play mate so they wont hurt each other.

Lady Hawk, I do understand what you are saying which is why I want to keep my next yorkie the same size as Kodak. I want him to have a playmate but not a bigger dog. I see a lot of members posting with bigger breeds that get along with their yorkies. In this apartment building I have to keep them small and he just needs a playmate.:aimeeyork

i ment people who spend more money on a tiny are stupid cos the breeders are taking them for a ride not that if you want a tiny your stupid:) a yorkie should be priced by how good the breed and pedigree are not on what size it is.

i said people who pay more for a tiny are stupid cos the breeders are only charging more cos they know they will pay more. NOT that people who buy tiny ones are stupid.
why charge more for a tiny one? why pay more for a tiny one?
the price that should be charged should be how good the pedigree is, how good the mum and dad are, and if the pup is breed standard and if the pup is healthy, price should not be about how tiny the pup may be at adult age.
i like the tiny ones and if i got a pup and it turned out to be a tiny i would of course love it but i dont think its right for a breeder to show a litter of pups all with the same mum and dad same health same pedigee and price the tiny one more than the breed standard ones just cos its a tiny.
how is that fair?
when you buy a larger than breed standard they are cheaper so why arent the the tiny ones cheaper as you cant breed with them?
i wasnt having a go at anyone or bashing tiny ones i was making a point about how breeders take people for a ride, a good breeder wouldnt charge more for a tiny and wouldnt try to breed tiny ones, the type of breeders that do dont care about the breed, the mother the pups or who is buying them, to them when a buyer walks in the door to see the pups all they see is money.

i wasnt having a go at people who buy tiny ones, i was having a go at BREEDERS who charge more for them THE BREEDERS who charge more for a tiny think the BUYERS are stupid NOT ME.
i think we have crossed wires here cos its just words on a screen and no one can hear the tone of my voice or maybe i worded it wrong.
i love BIG SMALL TINY and its nothing to do with me what size yorkie anyone has.:)

ok this is what i said but the first bit is what i was saying a BREEDERS THINKS, NOT what I THINK.:) I wasnt saying people who buy tiny ones are stupid. i would buy a tiny one but i wouldnt pay more for it just cos its tiny, but thats just me and if anyone does pay more for one thats up to them and nothing to do with me.:) i hope ive cleared that up now.:)
