Should I Get Another Yorkie? Hi again everyone, I've been soooo busy with my new little Carlee that I haven't had the time to write until now. I hope you can truthfully answer this question for me. Carlee is now almost 18 months old. She is super smart, super cute and most of all, super spoiled! I just found out that the gal we got her from has just had another litter, all girls. Finding the right breeder was very important to me when I was looking for Carlee so I know I would love to get another one from this same gal. The question I have is that I've heard that two females won't get along. Now, I know several of you do have two females, so they must get along, but not all the time? What should I do, perhaps wait till the next litter and get a boy? |
I saw the title of your thread, and thought: What a question to ask this forum! "Should I Get Another Yorkie?" LOL Most of us think: "WHEN can I get another yorkie?" :D I understand you are actually asking if you should get another female yorkie. |
Theres people on here with two females. Dogs have their own little moods. I have a male and a female and sometimes they dont get along but usually they do. The next one i get I am planning on getting another female |
I say go for it, I got both my girls from the same breeder and same parents and they get along just fine :D.. |
Mother of 2 girls I had a simular post a couple of months ago. We have a 1 year old female and about 2 months ago we got Abbie who is now 4 months old. Reesie was a little jealous at first. She would gather up all of her toys in a pile to keep Abbie from playing with them. Now Abbie can chew all over Reesie and unless her razor sharp teeth grabs a tender spot she just lets her chew. I would definitely recommend another female. My son's girl friend came down this Christmas with her friend's male yorkie that she was babysitting and Reesie had dominance issues with him. They didn't get into any fights, but they didn't run and play like Reesie and Abbie do. |
Definately. I have an older female Pom and got Cali 1 1/2 years ago and they gget along fine. I am also looking for another female Yorkie. |

I am sure Kodak will be fine with a female pup. Mine do fine together 95% of the time. They both have their moments with each other. I would say Chachi is more territorial. There are also times when Chachi wants to play rougher and Jewels doesnt want to and she will growl at Chachi. They have very few jealousy issues though |
I think it depends on the dog's temperament. Two aggressive dogs are going to have more of a problem then a more submissive dog. I think if I was going to get another puppy I would pick on temperament of personality. I would also take your other dog on multiple visits before picking just the right one. Things like putting the puppy on his back to rub his tummy is she relaxed? Touching the feet does she pull back. See the differences with each puppy and of course the breeder will know which puppy might be better. Watch her with his siblings. How does she play? Does she always win the toy? Take your time to find the perfect fit for your family. Good Luck. |
I am a mom of two girls. As I am typing this they are snuggling on a big floor pillow behind me. I think it depends on the personality of your pups more than the sex. Good luck! |
I have 2 females and they do fine. But like others said it depends on the temperment. Yorkies are like potato chips you can never just have 1. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks everyone! My dh is the only one that thinks getting another female would be a bad idea. He is weakening with every posts he reads! Here's our sweet Carlee: |
O MY GOSH, who couldnt love that pretty little girl! I agree, its the temperment, not the sex... I have 3 girls and 2 boys and everyone gets along, well - except the tempermental matriarch Tinker... she is the boss and it just doesnt matter, as long as everyone knows it... GO FOR IT! d |
