New Member Hey folks, I'm new here, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'll be the proud owner of a 1 yr old Yorkie as of Saturday (to go with our 3 yr old Boston Terrier), so I'm sure I'll be coming by here for tons of questions and assistance as he gets acclimated to our home. Very much looking forward to it! BTW, I'll be looking through past threads here to see if I can find anything helpful before he arrives, but if anyone has any advice on bringing a new Yorkie into the fold with an existing dog, I'm all ears! |
Hi and Welcome to YT, you will find lots of answers to your questions. Congratulations on your new baby!!:) |
Welcome!!!!:wavey: |
Welcome! My childhood dog was a boston. I think he might have been a little rough with a Yorkie so I'd suggest that you watch him/her carefully for the first few days. Has either one of them been around other dogs? That would help a lot. Make sure you give the Boston as much attention as you give the Yorkie so he/she doesn't get jealous. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Once again, welcome to YT. You will love it here - I know I do! |

Hello! Welcome to YT! My 12 y/o "Mozart" sulked for several weeks when we added Abigail to our family. I was really starting to worry about him, as he hid in the bedroom all day - only coming out for water (barely ate) - refused to join in play, and completely stopped giving me the little flick-kisses he'd given all his life. Then, one day, he peeeeeeped around the corner of the kitchen and sauntered in the den - for a FEW minutes. But, it was a start! <g> Abbie, being a puppy - and a YORKIE at that - just could not fathom that anyone might not like her, or her boisterous attentions! Anyway, with much coaxing and encouragement, "Mo" has returned to his old self. I nearly cried the first time he gave me a flick-kiss as he walked by. That's when I knew he'd forgiven us for bringing 'that THING' into his house! LOL He still looks at her as though he's been infested with 'yorkie'. All that to say: be prepared for various reactions from the resident pooch. He may accept the newcomer right away - be a little snippy, while establishing boundaries, or become depressed for awhile. Just give be sure the Boston feels included, and set aside special times just for him. |
hi, "Welcome" I too, have a Boston, and 2 yorkies.... and a mix chi, and a lab, and a cat... LOL My Boston does GREAT with Tootie(the larger YT) but he is a little skiddish around the baby, Hope. I truly think he is scared of her, maybe he doesnt know she is a dog.. LOL but really, they all get along great in my house.... Enjoy! d |
