Need Help - I Gotta New Furbaby Our family got our new furbaby on Christmas Day - she is SOOOOOOOOOOO adorable we named her Evie because "Santa" brought her on Christmas Eve for our 5year old. She is almost 6mo old. This is my problem......I have a guest bathroom downstairs that she has been in (pads and crate are in there). She has used the pad a couple of times and a couple of times not. When I point to the pad or tap it - she thinks I am playing and starts wagging her tail - I continuously say "go potty on pad" when I am pointing to it. I sprayed it with the puppy training spray and she has not showed any interest. What do I do? Also, her crate is in the same room do I need to move her crate elsewhere and only use that area for her pads or is it okay to have them in the same area? I know this is a slow process, but I do not want to teach her wrong now and then have to correct it later. Any suggestions would be GRACIOUSLY accepted. |
first of all congrats on your new baby. I wanna see pics lol. I think it takes time no matter what way you train and shes still a baby so she will have mistakes. |
I have made a lot of pictures of her in the past couple of days and I will post them within the week. Thanks for your words of encouragement:) |
oh and if she does have an accident soak the urine up with a pee pad and then lay that one down. sometimes that helps show her where to go |
Hi and welcome to YT:wavey: Congrats on your new babe. I read your other thread too and I am so sorry that that happened to you. YT a great place and I'm sure you will find all your answers here. It takes time for them to adjust to a new home. And unless you catch her in the act of not going on the pad don't correct her. she wont know what your doing it for but praise ALOT when she does. :) |
I don't have any advice,I just wanted to say hi and welcome to yt! I can't wait to see pics of your furbaby!:) :p |
I have tried those training sprays also...I feel they are a waste of money..I agree with NewMommy...wipe up any spots with the pee pad so she can smell it...also yorkies tend to like to pee and poop on rugs....Maybe you could try a re-usable cloth pee pad...this is what I use and find they use it more than the paper ones...I think they think they are going where they shouldn't be. |
the pee sprays didnt work with me either ;( |
Hi and :welcome4: to YT! Congrats on your new furbaby! Just keep doing what your doing and be patient....:) |
Welcome to YT!! :) I agree with other people, the spray doesn't work. I sprayed it in my backyard and my pup still doesn't want to go potty outside. We're waiting for pictures! |
Hello and Welcome to YT........it does take time to potty train but I would suggest that you put her own pee on the potty pad and someone had suggest to me that you can even put your own pee  on the pad...Good luck with you new baby and PLEASE PLEASE be careful they are small and can be easily hurt because me and my husband are two grown adults and we still have to grad a hold to a lamp, chair, table, sofa, curtain, or whatever we can grab a hold to not to fall or step on our little pup LOL its so funny at the amazing skills we have LOL but Bailey will follow us like we stole something from him LOL all over the house! Anyway I wouldn't recommend a 5 year old with a small dog as fragile as Bailey was but every child is different I guess.....ENJOY!!! |
Thank you all for the warm welcome and suggestions. I will put pics on this week for sure. I have already noticed her following my feet everywhere. It is so cute when I go she goes when I stop she stops. My 5year old is the most gentle little girl and is already very cautious and reminds us of the same. She is like a little mommy. Santa was very careful choosing her based on our little girl's behavior and temperment. They are a lot alike. Our little Evie is very laid back and not hyper by no means. She just wants to be petted and right now does not even care about toys. Which is a lot like our little girl. 2 Peas in a Pod :) Oh BTW my husband called me just a little while ago and she did use the pad - YEAH FOR EVIE. It won't happen everytime, but a little cheer for this morning. Courtney |
