multiple yorkie owners.. HELP!! (pups 2 and 3 months) HI! I RECENTLY got my beautiful baby boy pup on 9/14/06 named tedd. he is the light of my life, i absolutely love him. nevertheless, my mom bought me another yorkie as my college graduation present. she was born 10/20/06 and i got her today. they have the same dad different moms. she is soo laidback compared to teddy who is ball of energy. so they are about a month in age.. but my question is... how do you deal with the dominance issue? he is already dominating her... nipping, biting and such. he is never rough with her to the point where thye bark.. but what do i do? i don't want either lovelies in any pain.. ANY ADVICE?? ashley:confused: |
anybody? please?? ashley |
He will Not hurt her They are still pups if he bites at her redirect him to a more proper thing to bit as in a toy. let him know that it is not ok to be mean. a simple firm not (Yell) just firm no should do. How long have they been together? It does take a little time to adjust. |
ohh.. thank you. today is their first day together. im just so nervous. but i hadnt thought of getting something else to bite with. Okay, I will try that. thank you! I just needed some advice, I was so worried he would overpower her. Ashley |
In the animal world, where there is two or more, there is always a dominant role. As long as he is not hurting her, and more than likely won't, he is just letting her know who's the boss. Its harmless unless he begins to physically hurt her. They will work it out. Theres nothing you can do to keep one of them from taking on this role. I bet they are adorable. You'll enjoy them. Are you going to have them spayed and neutered? Do you have any pictures of the little angels?? |
hi! I'm going to post them tomorrow. Theresa has been so sleepy lately, that I think she's tired from the trip! I flew all the way to Texas to pick her up. He nibbles on her ear.. to the point where she'll squeal.. and then he'll stop. Do you think he'll go farther than that? I'm just so worried. But yes, I'm getting them both spayed and neutered. I'm a new yorkie owner.. what age would be a good idea to do that? My vet said he's already a dominant male.. he already hikes his leg and humps everything in sight at only 3 months, so he recommends it. But.. keeping in the same room while I'm gone.. is this a good idea? ashley |
Before you know it , it will be the female that you'll be posting about . |

This is so true. Our two had babies 4 months ago and these pups go at it all time. At first, the male was the one that bit, rolled, tantalized the little girl, and now the tables have turned. The little girl (Maggie) jumps on Bogus and does the same to him. She will then proudly strut off like she has accomplished the ultimate, lol. I wouldn't be afraid to leave them alone at all. As long as its not serious, this little girl will learn to defend herself, and he more than likely just wants to play. She'll warm up and get comfortable with her surroundings and start fighting/playing back. They can play so hard and rough sometimes it makes you think they are hurting each other, and then the one that feigns injury, will jump right back in. Relax and enjoy them. As far as the spay/neuter subject. Talk with your vet. Some will perform this at4-6 months of age. Good luck, your going to be a great Yorkie Mom. Where in Texas did you get her? |
I have August and October Yorkie pups -- so almost the same as you. I got Ben first and worried he would be too rough with Sadie. But it is Sadie that gets too rough. When she does not stop with a verbal "stop" I give her a little nip with my fingers like a momma dog would and say "stop" as I do it. They still play rough and rowdy -- but in fun. Sadie is backing off much better now with a verbal warning. |
Pretty normal among siblings, it's play fighting....when in a litter with mom, mom usually controls the antics.....and teaches them how to play. You'll have to stop it if it gets rough..... |
They are learning to be social and testing the limits. I have Mom and two 4 month old siblings. They are playing constantly, and sometimes bite too hard and the other will yelp. It is definitely less yelping then a few weeks ago. They learn their place in the social "family". I let them "work it out" and I try to stay out of it. Mom is definitely the boss and if they try to walk on her or are playing too hard she will let them know. How lucky you are to have two. They will be the best of buddies. |
I have 2 yorkies and they are 6 months apart. I was told to keep them seperate at times and then together until the older one ( who I got first) was use to it. They are both puppies and you are probably seeing them play. Mine still to this day, and they are 11 get on each others nerves once in a ahile. It is normal. Enjoy them |
