wat about getting a kitten for my boy i have 10 month old yorkie, who is very playful, some time i cant give enough time for him and thinking of getting him a company, now i cant afford another yorkie pup, so friend of mine want to give me a kitten, but i was bit confuse, will they both do ok with each other, a cat and a dog, will they play together???? |
my kirby loves cats but my muffie hates and chases them. i would get your baby around a kitten to see first. make sure the kitten is declawed. you don't want anyone getting hurt |
We have a cat and Zena plays with him all the time. However, we don't leave them alone together, just in case :) |
I had a siamese cat before I got Lex. The first few days (like 3) she was a bit hesitant and stayed away from him. After that it was a wrap. They were each other's constant partners and played all the time together. It will be ok if you choose to get a kitty. |
1 Attachment(s) Since your pup is young, I would think they would get along just fine with a kitten. Usually older cats are set in there ways about dogs & usually don't care for them. Our cat which was 3 when we got our puppy doesn't like our dog at all, however, our dog plays with the kittens out at the farm so I think it's all about growing up together. -disclaimer, the picture looks a little dirty, but they are actually just playing. |
i think i will take kitten for few days and see wats going on.........ya but one more thing, will he start to eat yummy kitty poo[ohh then i no need to buy treats for him:p ] any suggestion to stop him eating that. |
I just rescued a kitten from a shelter about 3 months ago to be a companion for my 1 1/2 old 3lb yorkie. They LOVE each other. They are constantly playing. After a while the cat does get annoyed with Cole but will just go somewhere he can't get to. The cat is already twice the size of my yorkie so I am glad I got him as a kitten when they were about the same size. Oh and I must have lucked out because my yorkie DOES NOT eat the cat poo!! :D |

My husband wanted a cat really bad so I got him one as a gift (he picked it out without realizing he was going to actually get her, this was a very planned gift and he had been looking and wanting one for over two years) Anyway I got him the Cat and he absolutely fell in love with her. The problem...she turned out to be my Yorkie's and IG's cat, not his cat. THEY LOVE each other and play like crazy. Joy (cat) is constantly bathing them and mothering them. It is so sweet. Plus, she really knows how to wear them out. |
That has got to be the worst part. Mine were always getting into and eating cat pooh. YUCK! |
Gracie loves my cats and the feeling is mostly mutual! They chase each other around and play with each other. Gracie gives my long- hair exotic a bath whenever she gets a chance. It should work out well as long as the new kitty is a kitten, not yet exposed to dogs. |

I recently took Coco to my friends house. She has a weiner dog, and a cat. Coco actually played more with the cat than the dog :D and Coco's never even been around a cat before. So I would say go for it. If I found a nonshedding hypoallergenic cat, I would consider it :D |
Just make sure the cat is declawed. Diesel LOVES playing but the cat well.. When our cat was a kitten things were ok. The older he got he actually became dangerous. He grew faster than Diesel and began pinning Diesel to the ground. The cat was playing but playing VERY VERY rough like. Needless to say I didn't like it one bit. We fixed our cat and put him out. Now he comes in and out and has mellowed out a LOT. Since being older he no longer plays with Diesel. Now he stalks him and attacks him if we don't watch them closely. I guess every cat is different so you must watch them very carefully. I am sure I will be jumped all over for putting the cat out. Attacking Diesel was not the only reason and now he is a much happier cat. He LOVES being out. |
i have two male cats (both fixed) and my yorkie plays with them, eats and sleeps with them 24/7. I have to worry about her whipping their butts instead off the other way around. they lay on their backs and she attacks their ears, biting and pulling until they howl...then she licks their faces to say she's sorry and it starts all over again. Mr. Cuddles was adopted by my daughter for her birthday and he was almost seven months old when we got Whiskey. My other daughter wanted a baby kitten so we got Mr. Kitty about three days before we bought whiskey for my hubby's b-day present so they have pretty much grown up together. They have not been declawed and do not scratch us, my other dogs or my furniture....they are pretty laid back. Whiskey and the cats like to have contests to see how many "presents" (mice, voles, etc.) they can bring Mommy.:eek: |
I have a 5 year old Himalayan cat that is declawed. Maizee tries to play with Skytlz, the cat, but I'm not so sure Skytlz is fond of Maizee. He bites her sometimes, at which point I have to separate them for a while. But, sometimes Skytlz goes in search of Maizee, so who knows. He can't hate her all that much. By the way, she LOVES him. As long as the cat is declawed and their initial meeting goes well, I don't see how it could be that much of a problem. (I had pictures, but I can't find them now) |
