Going to Work, Any SUGGESTIONS to keep Bailey Content? Ok I will be in the process of searching for a job in January and I'm just wondering on tips I can do to keep Bailey content. Bailey will be 5mo on the 9th of Jan. I absolutely am not going to leave him in his little crate thats only for nighttime and if I have to go somewhere. I was thinking of getting him one of those round circular playpens and leave lots of toys, food, water, etc. for him to keep busy. Any my question is ONLY to the WORKING yorkie parents what do you do? Please I don't need any negative comments about me leaving Bailey from stay-at-home parents. Thanks. P.S.: I will be getting another Yorkie but it will probably be when Bailey is close to 1 :) |
I put mine in an x-pen while I'm at work w/ lots of toys and of coarse their beds. I also play relaxing music for them. But they are hardly ever home by themselves. Usually when I'm not there Daddy is there. Good Luck searching for a job. I know it's going to be hard for you to leave your baby when you go to work....I miss mine before I even step foot out the door. That's even with their daddy home. |
2 Attachment(s) this is what morgan is in while im at work. i'm gone 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon with a lunch break in between. She is absolutely fine. Usually when i come home for lunch she is sleeping. There is food and water in there, as well as a bed, blanket and some toys. I really think she sleeps most of the day in there. |
lexi now has the run of the house when i work, but i also keep the tv on all day long for her on cartoon network.... |
Hi there. I'm doing similar thing like you. I work full time so I have to leave my Momiji home. I have had her for a month now and I've started training her to stay home alone one hour at a time. I leave her in small space with her crate w/ bed, wee wee pad, toys, and Kong w/ peanut butter or yogurt. It has been difficult for her to be alone but sooner you train your yorkie, it will be easier for your yorkie to accept being alone. Oh yes, I do leave TV on as well. Good luck finding a job!!! |
Good luck with your job search! Of course, the perfect situation is when mommy stays at home, or someone else is home most of the day...But I also need to work :( and I don't think it would change anytime soon (If I didn't work, I couldn't afford a dog, funny isn't it...). I used to leave Pepper in his play pen, but pretty soon I started gating him off in the kitchen, which is pretty big anyway and completely puppy-proof (I wouldn't trust him in a bedroom or other rooms when no one's home: cables, the Christmas tree right now and he gets into stuff). He has his toys and food, a bed and a little 'cave'. and pee pad. He sleeps most of the time and that whole energy comes out at night ( whew), I leave radio on so he doesn't get too focused on the noises outside. He stays alone for about 6-7 hours during the week. Edited: Oh, and if your pup likes Kong, the better... He'll be a little occupied when you're not there. Mine doesn't like anything made of rubber :( |
I use an x-pen that has lots of room and tricked out with all the luxuries. Since he is use to you being home I would get it and start getting him use to being in it before you are gone all day. Just going to the store, etc. Put him in with a treat of a Kong or bullystick. Make it a fun experience and short periods getting use to it. It will be an adjustment but he should be fine. Good Luck! |
Leave food, water and lots of toys - I also leave on a radio or TV for mine. I have momma, daddy and 3 of their grown babies - then lots of attention when you get home - |
I leave Bengi in the kitchen. He has his bed, his pad, his toys, food and water. I usually give him a kong with yogurt. I cannot says he is "content" because he doesn't want me to leave, but that's the best I can do for now. I know that he sleeps most of the time when I'm at work. |
Chewy is home alone most days. She used to get crazy and tear everything apart in my room (she stays in my room). She figured out how to open the garbage can and tore up all the papers inside, opened my closet sliding door and ate 2 pairs of shoes (my fav flip flops :( ), etc. But its been 4 months since ive had her and shes fine about it now (knock on wood). Ive learned to puppy proof, tied up the wires, put my shoes on shelves in my closet, and tape her wee wee pad to the floor. I know that she sleeps most of the day because when i get home there is usually 0-1 pee on the pad and when shes done licking and biting me she runs to pee. Just leave lots of toys and something warm and soft to curl up for a nice long nap and ur baby will be fine. try to get him used to it by leaving for a few hrs at a time but theyll be fine, i dont know why ppl freak out about leaving them home alone...they are dogs after all. good luck on your job hunt |
