Harnesses are too small Wembley's about 4 pounds and fairly small framed, and she currently wears a collar. When we have her out, though, she pulls a lot, and I am starting to be concerned about her tiny trachea. I have searched high and low for a harness that is small enough to snuggly fit her, but have not had any success. I even had my training place fit her for one, but even they said the harnesses they sold would be too big (after many tries of adjusting the extra small to make it as small as possible). Anyone have any brands to recommend for us? THANKS :animal-sm |
I found my yorkie's harness at petsmart. He used to wear it when he was only 2.5lbs. It's just a black nylon harness size x-small (8"-10")...then just tighten it up as tight as it will go, and it should fit. I looked for it on their website, but I couldn't find it. You might just try going to petsmart and looking for it. |
Same here. I got my harness at Petsmart when Gus was two pounds. It adjusts so he is still wearing it at five pounds. |
I have the same black nylon harness from petsmart and my male is the same size (4lbs) and it works wonderfully. If you can't find a small one harness, try looking in the dog section, you can try looking at the harnesses they make for cats! |
Mya wears a kitten harness. The cat harnesses were to big. Mya is 2lbs. To night we had her out in her harness with a little flashing light hair clip I attached to it. My husband thought it was stupid at first but the realized you can keep track of where she is in the dark with out stepping on her. She also playing with her little ball that falshes when you through it. We had an nice and funny light show. Dog are so entertaining !!!!!!!! I guess that is why we called our first one "comic" Respectfully, Cyn Driving the grammatically correct insane, one posting at a time |
The Buddy belt is a great harness for tiny dogs. The smallest size is perfect for a 2 lb yorkie and the next up for a 4-5 lber. |

When mine were little I got a cat or ferret harness, that would adjust to a small size. It was so light that it took no time and they were walking with it. I got it at Petco. |
Both my yorkies are 4lbs and I found harnesses that fit them perfectly at PetSmart. BUT I also noticed a few pet stores have cat harnesses, so if you dont have a PetSmart near your home check your local pet store for a cat harness, they are much smaller than the ones made for dogs and just might work for your little girl ;) |
The "step in" style harnesses are also really good for the little ones. |
I bought mine at Petsmart too. I call them bras. They have several different sizes and colors. I have 2 pups under 3#, one 5#, one 6#, and one 9 1/2#. So I bought several. |
Have you thought of getting a custom made one from one of the websites we're always chatting about here? Some of them are really adorable, and some are plain...whichever you prefer. The ones on tinkerbell's site are soooo cute, and barkindog has a good one, too. I have to add some  for that little plain black nylon harness from PetSmart, too. We just got one last weekend & I love it! More importantly, Max doesn't mind wearing it, doesn't chomp my fingers when I'm putting it on him, and it FITS. He's 5.5 lbs, and we got the XS, too. |

Your signature is too funny!! A woman once said to me "I may not spell that well, but I'm a lot of fun at parties!" so I think that's my new motto! It's what's important that counts!! :D |
Thanks! Wow, all of these ideas are so helpful. I also got a pm from the person who runs http://www.imapreciouspup.com with a suggestion for the mesh harness vest (last harness on the last page of the harness section). I think it looks good. Anyone try anything like that? It goes on with velcro ... wonder if that would be safe in a parking lot (live n a townhouse, so outside is a parking lot with small patches of lawns)? I actually think I might have that tiny harness from petsmart which I think I bought when we first got Wembley. It was too hard to house train her with the harness because it took forever to get on, so we switched to a collar. I'll have to look around for it. Also, I think that the light on the harness suggestion is a fantastic idea! I walk her on a leash, but at night there's very little light to see what she's doing ... or :animal-sm eating. Thanks all so much! Love it here. |
