Has ANYONE tried or heard anything about PETSMART dog training?? I am considering putting my Bailey in the Puppy classes at PetSmart anyone tried it or heard anything??? |
petsmart Bubba went to petsmart class. He did very well and graduated. Of couse there is alot of homework for you and your baby. There were about 7 dogs in our class (1 dropped out). BUT, it all depends on the instructor. Ours was great and I still see her occassionally or get an email from her. |
I did it with both Kona and Bernie. I really liked it. I had a GREAT trainer the first time around. The 2nd one was okay, but I basically knew all of the steps so I was able to work with him knowning what I did the first time. The reason I signed Bernie up was because I knew he needed his own area to practice. It was too hard to teach him with Kona around. |
I went through the basic course with my Greyhound and really enjoyed it. The key is to check out all of the different Petsmarts because they all have different trainers. Don't be afraid to ask them about their credentials. Also watch them while they are teaching a class. Most Petsmarts have the training areas set up so that the public can observe. You also want to keep in mind what kind of dogs the trainer is used to training. Some work better with smaller dog and some with larger dogs. It does make a difference. Also make sure they can cater to your breed's specific needs. For example, Greyhounds have a very hard time sitting, it is physically painful and impossible for some to sit. I had to find a trainer that was Greyhound savvy and that had worked with Greyhounds before. Good luck. Training classes can be a wonderful boning experience. |
Gigi took puppy classes at petsmart, and she loved it. We had a great trainer.... but I would recommend watching the trainer you are considering, like stewartdogs suggested. We will be going to intermediate classes when our lives calm down again! |
I took Bailey to PetSmart and it was great. Of course who the trainer is makes a huge difference. We have taken a few classes there and I always look for classes with the same trainer. Bailey really likes her and gets excited to see her when we go in the store. It's cute! One day Donna was sick and there was another trainer in the classroom, Bailey was running into the class looking for Donna & actually skidded to a stop when she saw someone else in the blue trainers shirt and decided it was time to leave..LOL..We all cracked up! You can always go visit a class at no charge to see if it for you. When Bailey graduated they give diplomas and get their pictures taken with graduation caps.:) |
1 Attachment(s) Funny you should ask! Adie graduated from PetSmart's puppy class just yesterday. Aside from the fact that there was one particular LARGE dog that was waaay to interested in her, the class was great. I loved it, she loved it and it was a great success. We are going back for more in January! |
We did the beginner class and loved it. I want to go back & do the intermediate class. |
Ok thanks you guys for the input I will sign my Bailey up tomorrow when I go and get his 1st puppy haircut :D |
I was thinking about doing this with Chewy. I have a few questions though... What do they teach you/dogs there? How much are the classes and how many are in the biginner course? Thanks |

The petsmart training class by me sucks, everyone I know who paid said it wasn't worth it. I think it has a lot to do with the trainer, because I wasn't pleased when I stopped in to watch. I was like, I could do that myself! He was talking to the pet owners like they were dogs. I have found another class at the groomer that I take Kodak to, and everyone I asked there was satified. The trainer there knew how to talk to people and train. I won't take Kodak until I get him neutered.:( |

Classes range from a couple of dogs to 8 dogs. I like the smaller classes because you get one on one with the trainer. The classes are 8 weeks 45 min to an hour. If you miss a class you can reschedule to make it up. |
I took chelsea to the petsmart training and so far I have been very happy. THe trainer Lisa seems very good. I live in the greater LA area and I believe she teaches many petsmart classes. I did not take the puppy class and skip to beginner class where the focus is on command including clicker training. I strongly recommend you guys provided that you get a good teacher. It is fun too and BTW actually you are the one that gets to be trained more..... |
