Must haves for new baby? Hiya! I'll be getting my new baby tuesday yay! Not sure of the name yet, i'll see how his personality develops. I bought a package from this store with puppy essentials, but I wanted to know if you had any ideas on what else I need. I have: A starter bag 6.5lbs of dry food A starter can of Wet food(I know i'll need much more of both) Dog Biscuts Nutrical Nylabones(After reading posts I may re-think them, they arent 100% digestable) Some other dental chew(cant remember the name but I doubt i'll use that either, its jel lookin but completely solid.) Harness Leash Collar Squeaky toy(insanely loud, will it scare him?) Rope toy Bobo(lol) Pee pads Shampoo Nature's miracle stain remover Crate Sweater(even though its 68 degrees in Dec.) Nail clipper Brush Blanket(is wool bad?) Food bowls I still have two days to get his carrier bag, Crate bed, food suppliment(cant remember the name), conditioner, refreasher spray. So that's all I have/know to get. I keep thinking i'm forgetting the obvious. Anything else I need? Any human meds you keep on hand that are safe for emergencies? How soon do I brush his teeth? Thanks!! PS: I searched for a post about this but I couldnt really find one, I'm really just looking for opinions. |
If it's a boy you might want to get a few belly bands, some baby wipes to clean him up, and some styptic powder to stop the bleeding if you cut his nails too deep. Instead of the nylabones you should get him bully sticks. They're safer and completely digestible. Just don't ask what they're made of. ;) |
It sounds like to me you have everything you need. You might want to go ahead and get your tooth brush and toothpaste. I started brushing mine as soon as they they came home so they could get used to it. I knew you were looking at yorkies but didnt know you got one. When does your furbaby come home with you?Oh I just reread your post and see your baby comes home Tuesday. Congrats |
D'oh! and I forgot to congratulate you on your new baby! Silly me. :cheer: CONGRATULATIONS!! :cheer: BTW, I'm also getting my new baby this week - on Thursday! |

Oh and the bones are called Nutri Dent, are those ok? |
How exciting for you. The breeder gave me bitter apple spray and I think it's most effective if you use it while they are young. As soon as I sprayed it on something, he would try to chew, but then stop. I wish I had sprayed it on the blinds right away though. Dry food is so much better for your puppy's teeth than wet. They usually prefer wet and many will turn their noses up at dry if given a choice. You can always wet down dry food if necessary. It's best to use food that the breeder has used and gradually mix your brand with it if you wish to change. Some Nylabones are 100% digestible and some aren't. The Nutri Dent bone is made by Nylabones and is said to be 100% natural, but I don't know if that means 100% digestible. At close to 20 weeks, Joey just hides any bones we give him, but at first he loved the Nutri Dent. Good Luck on your new baby! Nancy |

Thanks!! They told me to mix the wet and dry. Ill probably use less over time until he's not eating it anymore. Ill research the nutri dent bone, it does say 100% natural but who knows what that means. OMG I DEFINETELY need the bitter apple spray! I was holding him the other day and thought "aww he's shaking," the little bugger was eating my sweat pants! Lol, well nibbling them. |

hey there My (2nd) baby comes home today...I am so excited. Your list was fantastic...I have one question/suggestion...how is your baby coming home? If you are picking him up in the car do you have a car seat? My 1st baby came on a plane, already in her crate so I assumed it would be fine to buckle into the car....but it was too big and would only fit in the trunk. Fortunately my friend came to pick up my puppy so she held her on the way home. Also you can use clear deoderant as a substitute for bitter apple spray...I found it worked better Good luck! |

Hey it sounds like your doing pretty well. I see your from Maryland can I ask where'd you get your new furbaby. I'm currently looking for another furbaby myself. Was it a breeder in the area? |
Ooh and congrats to you as well, thanks for the deoderant tip! |
