I'm a new yorkie mom and member Hi there. I'm a new mommy as of last night, when her plane arrived at 9pm. My little Coco is so cute and playful. She runs and runs until she tumbles around on the carpet. She's been good with the potty so far. I am trying to get to know her schedule of when to put her on the puppy pad. I hold her there and let her roam around only the puppy pad until she goes. It's working thus far (keeping my finders crossed). She is soooo tiny, weighing in at 1 lbs. 5 oz. She was definetly the runt of the litter but she's my runt. The breeder told me that I can leave her in her crate while I am gone during the day for work. Is that mean or a proper practice? I would hate it if she was crying the whole time I was gone. I left the TV on and woke up 2 hours before I normally get up to spend some time with her. What do I do when she's crying at night? Do I pick her up out of her bed, or do I ignore it? Any good pet insurance advice or recommendations that won't be too costly? I need all of the advice I can get. Thanks :animal-sm |

Welcome!!!! :D You'll like it here everyone is so friendly and always has good advice. Where in California do you live? |

Congrats! We've been Yorkie owners for a month now! Lucky you on the potty training. Bandit will have no part of it. He just squats whenever and where ever. We do keep him in a crate during the day and he loves his crate. It's not cruel, but a young puppy can't be expected to hold it in all day. Since you don't want him to go in the crate either you or a neighbor should let him out once during the day if at all possible. Bandit is holding it all day, and finally sleeping through the night!!!! (YES!) but he pees every 10 minutes the rest of the time. |

My cutie Coco I live in the bay area, Walnut Creek specifically. Yea I know I'm probably getting too excited, too soon for the potty thing. I bet she will start going anywhere she wants pretty soon. I let her go potty in the morning before I leave, so I am hoping (since it's technically my first day with her) that she can hold it. She was on a 6 hour flight and held it the whole time plus another hour before going. I don't know but hopefully I will get lucky in that department. She was whimpering a lot last night. I hardly slept at all but it's all worth it. Should I be picking her up at night when she whimpers or just ignore it so she doesn't pick up the bad habit? What do you guys think? Thanks |

hi vainchick5 congrats on your new baby you are in walnut creek i'm right by you in Oakley. as far as her crying at night i think it depends on what you want if you want her to stay in her bed i would try to comfort her at least for the first few nights. Mine have always slept in my bed with me and my 5 cats and once in awhile my son lol. I love them to sleep with me cuz they cuddle and they are so cute i work in Walnut Creek so i'm gone for 12 hours a day (my son is home with them at 3) so i like them to be with me as much as i can if i could bring them to work with me i would. Just wondering where did you get her from a friend of mine is looking and cant find any around here |

new mommy to Coco I actually want her to stay in her bed at night when she sleeps. That might change when she gets older but for right now I want her to sleep there. She is only 1.5 lbs and I am afraid of either crushing her, or having her jump off the bed when im asleep. If she did that she could break something. Last night I picked her up and she fell asleep on my chest. It was sweet but I want her to know that just because she cries, she won't get her way allllll the time. She too cute though. I got her from a breeder in Oaklahoma. Her name is patty and her e-mail is dogs@itlnet.net. She is so great!!! I have all her papers, vet checks, 1 year health guarantee and the lady was very honest and nice. My poor puppy was jet lagged though from that long trip. But all the toys and snacks were worth it for her. |

lol that was my fear falling off the bed or me crushing them you would be suprised how still you sleep when they are that tiny and in your bed. I had a litter of 3 they stayed in a play pen next to my bed untill they were about 6 weeks old then they slept with me lol it was like haveing triplets get up to put one on the potty pad go back to sleep next one needs to go lol i slept with 5 yorkies and 5 cats for 6 weeks lol good think i have a queen size bed and no husband. darn i was hoping you got her from somewhere here (didn't read they flew part) she doesnt want to have one shipped she thinks it will not be good for the baby. Oh yea just wait that little girl will get her way ALL THE TIME lol they always do |

Hello and congrats on your new little baby! She's darling! When I first brought my baby home, she would cry at night in her crate also. I would get up and hold her and she'd want to play. LOL Anyway, after a couple of No Sleep nights, I put her crate in another room and just turned on a radio with music, and she didn't cry after doing that. Hopefully that will help you! Best wishes! |

Take a tee-shirt or something you have worn and not washed and put with her. If you take her out when she cries she will know your a softie lol. Be sure and take her potty if she needs it. little ones cant hold it forever. rene: its not bad to get a dog shipped if its a stright flight. I shipped one to Maryland and it was there with in an hour. The man that transported her to the plane took her up front with him and the girls put her inside the plane, ZI bet she was really spoiled by the time she got there. the airlines just cant resist those yorkies. lol. and she was suppose to fly cargo. |
