Biewer Yorkie vs. Yorkie Hi Everyone, I just started hearing about Biewer Yorkies. I've seen a few photos and they are adorable. That said, I know nothing about the breed. Are they a type of Yorkshire Terrier, a cross (such as a Morkie) or are they a totally different breed? |

(Lots of pics too, just in case you are really curious and have spare time:) ) There are several members here who are very knowledgeable on the Biewers as well. Confuses the heck out of me, I know that! I got yelled at when I asked questions and started trying to figure it out...LOL...so I just quit asking! |

The Biewer is NOT a mix -- it originated from two traditional Yorkshire Terriers who carried the recessive piebald gene. Their country of origin is Germany, and they are now being imported to the US. I am very lucky to have gotten a sweet little girl who is now 7 1/2 months old -- and she is one of the prettiest ones in this country. (Of course, I am just a little prejudiced -- cause she's mine!!! lol) Seriously though, they are wonderful little doggies -- with a lot of the yorkie traits -- but they also seem to be different. Can't quite put my finger on it to explain it... There's a lot of good information and several good breeders out there -- but you also have to be careful, as there are also some breeders who don't care what they are breeding or selling (both in Germany or in the US) Best thing to do is do a whole bunch of research! Here are a couple of pics of Lola when she was younger... I'll have to resize some current ones of her... |
What's the difference between Biewers and Parti Yorkies? Is it how they are registered. Biewers come from Briewers and Partis are out of Yorkies? I absolutely just love them and would love to have a breeding pair eventually, but currently that is out of my budget.:p |
Anna: The Biewers originated in Germany -- I believe the Parti's originated in the U.S. They probably both are the result of a piebald recessive gene -- but the Parti's do not have a standard. The Biewers do. Biewers must have a tri-color head (Black, Tan/Gold and White) in good symmetry. They have 4 white legs, a white chest and white tummy. They do not have a docked tail, and the tip of the tail must be white. The back can have black and white in whatever pattern. Some Biewers have more white on their back, and some have more black. My Lola is very black on her back. I think the Parti's have a docked tail. You can do a search on Parti Yorkies and there are a few good threads. I believe it's Jeanne K who has a lot more info on the parti's. The Biewers are registered with German registries. The Parti can be registered AKC if the parents are AKC. Neither the Parti's or Biewers can be shown in AKC shows yet. There is a lot of controversy surrounding both of these dogs... but I'm sure that's the way it is when any new breed is introduced. |
Just wanted to correct my post regarding the colors... the actual colors on the Biewers standard are black/blue tan/gold and white on the head... Blue is the standard color, but black is acceptable... on both the head and the back. I for one, prefer the black, so I hope Lola stays black. |

The German Biewers and the American parti colored both come from traditional colored yorkies, where both parents happened to carry the parti colored gene,(although there are those who will tell you differently). You need to research the breeder carefully because there are a lot of unscrupulous breeders who are mixing them and claiming that they are Biewers or Parti coloreds. If you buy from a reputable breeder who has been breeding partis or Biewers for years you should get a true yorkie. If someone suddenly claims to have gotten a parti and has not bred from stock purchased from a long time breeder then I would be very suspicious. There seem to be a lot of them just popping up suddenly out of nowhere. |
