Brushing teeth In what position do you place your yorkie to brush his teeth and does anyone of you use baking soda instead of toothpaste ? If so how do you use it and at what quantity? |
No one brushes his yorkie's teeth  |
I do, I put her on my knees but she fights and fights and hates getting her teeth brushed. I use petzlife and I think it's good stuff. |
I use liver dog toothpaste. I don't know if it's any good? But I put him on the bathroom counter, kitchen counter or on his grooming table and I comb out his eye boogers, wash his face and brush his teeth. If you are having trouble try a grooming table (I got one for about $60 at Petedge.com) because the noose helps. I usually hold onto the hair on his chin or the hair on either side of his nose and lift the gums up so I can see what I'm doing. He is pretty used to it we try to do it every other day. I use a baby/kid toothbrush - I can get them for $1 at target. Look for the "firefly" i find that is the best size and it's really soft. That toothpaste is nasty and hard to rinse off so I throw them away after I use them a few times. |
I put Royce on my knees on his back and I brush both sides the the front he does fight but i dont let him go till Im done, what's petzlife ? |

I sit on my knees on the floor and hold the dog between my knees with my legs so they can't get away. My dogs hate it. If I was using baking soda I would make a paste with water with it. The dog probably won't like the salty taste. |

Try the Petzlife, no more brushing! I promise, it works. There have been other threads discussing this product and it's great. All you have to do is either spray it in their mouth or buy the gel and place a little on their lips for them to lick off. Chloe isn't crazy about it, but it only takes a second, not the long, drawn-out brushing drama! |
I can't get into the girls mouths to brush but, their teeth are in pretty good shape...I have seen this chew toy at PetCo...it's shaped like a dog bone and on the inside of the ends it looks like it has some kind of brush that I would imagine you put the dog tooth paste on and while they are chewing on it it brushes their teeth..I am going to check into these myself. |
as someone mentioned here it's the action of brushing that helps to prevent tartar, other products might help but brushing is essential . |
I do it once a week during bath time in the tub. She stands and I expose her teeth and do my thing. She pretty good about this. I am considering getting a tooth scaler to get the tartar the brush misses.:animal36 |
