Diet for yorkie? Hi all, I think I have just about recovered from reading the "Lipstick" thread on the emergency forum but my sides still ache I must say!!!! Anyhoo a quick question my little boy Jake is 6 lbs and his weight is fine for him. But my little girl Lily has put on weight since she was speyed 2 years ago. She is now 9.1 lbs and solid. I feed them both the same I leave Royal Canin Yorkie biscuits out all the time and feed them a pouch of dog food each morning and night. I want to put my girl Lily on a diet but dont want to do anything to hurt her. Should I be cutting down the meat morning and night? Should I lift the biscuits up and only put them out twice a day? What do I do for Jake I dont want him to lose weight and he tends to eat a few biscuits throughout the day rather than a lot at once. Anyone got any advice? Ruthx |
I think you might have to control her feedings and measure her kibble. Maybe a fourth of a cup of kibble twice a day and thats it. My vet told me that me girl needs to be on a diet to and I am do it this way although I don't think I am succeding because I always give into letting her have table scraps because I feel so bad. |
I know what you mean about feeling bad, I worry that they are so small they cant eat a lot at a time which is why I leave biscuits out all the time so they can nibble. If I put biscuits out with their meat they couldnt eat both at once. I dont mix them as they love the meat and will leave the biscuits and pick round them to get the meat but they will eat biscuits throughout the day. I feel bad to that Jake can affort to eat treats and table scraps but Lily cant so feel guilty and give her just a tiny amount to. Ruthx |
