New Member, New Yorkie

undefined Hey y'all,

I've been reading at the message board here and you folks are such a wealth of information. I thought it was time to introduce myself and my new friend. My screen name, Barkerbunch, really describes my house. Besides myself and hubby, there are our two boys ages 7 and 10, one huge lab/pyrenes mix, a one year old american bulldog (same as a boxer only smaller), two jack russell terriers a guinea pig named pebbles and now our new 2 year old yorkie. It's quite a house (and yard) full but we love it.

My new baby, 6 pound little boy, came to us from my parents. They got him a year ago and have loved this little dog like he was their child. When they got him both of them were working from a home office and now they aren't able to do that any longer. Both of them have to go in to the office. Besides working, they are always running around somewhere and never at home. As a result, the little yorkie was spending entirely too much time home alone. My mother was heartbroken to give him up but at the same time felt like it was the best thing for him. We have babysitted for him several times while they were out of town and he always loved to visit here. I couldn't stand to see him go anywhere else so now Mommie has a new baby.

We still haven't settled on what the baby will be called. My parents called him Shady but my husband had another dog named Shady for 13 years and had to put it to sleep due due to fatal sickness. We can't say Shady without thinking of the other beloved pet. I don't want to confuse him so we have been tossing out things that sound similiar to Shady like Speedy, Shorty and Shaggy. Our smallest jack russell (10 pounds) is named Scrappy Doo and the two play together so we will probably end up calling him Shaggy. Unless he objects, that is. It doesn't sound like such a regal little dog but unless we come up with another idea I guess it will do.

Wow! I've written a book. :o Nice to meet y'all.

Angie

Welcome Barkbunch! I think shaggy is not a bad name for him. It sound like you really have a house full. I have a yorkie his name is charlie and he is 2 years old. His register name is Sir Charlie VII.

Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I live in Maine, but I have a daughter who lives in Lexington, KY. She has 3 horses and 2 Great Danes, a cat, and a pet bullfrog, so you two have a lot in common with animals.

How really lovely of you to make room for Shaggy (I like that name!) in your lives!

I have a 13 year old Doodle named Pogo, and my Yorkie kid is almost 10 months old now....his name is Higgins and he is the light of our lives.

We'll look forward to getting to know you! Again, welcome! :D

Welcome barkerbunch! We know of a dog named 'Shaddy', not sure if that's still too close, but good idea to change his name to something close to Shady. Shaggy is great! A whole Scooby family... Thanks for the introduction.

Welcome. I grew up with a lot of pets, I think that the most that we ever had at one time were: 2 horses, 4 dogs, 2 birds, a rabbit, a turtle, and 5 cats (we need many cats to keep the mice out of the house and barns and stuff). We used to have a shetland s/c horse that just showed up at our house sick and abused and decided to stay, his name was Nipper and he was so sweet. Anyway I love it when other people own a lot of animals, I know I will when I am older. Right now I have two dogs and a cat that live with me. A shipoo named Misha, a yorkie named Gabby, and Pip a long haired black cat. I love to have new members, and I can't wait to here all of your stories.

Thanks

Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm in central Kentucky just south of Lexington. About 30 minutes away, actually. I love to drive around Lexington where all the horse farms are. They are so beautiful! The farms and the horses. A couple summers ago we had 3 horses that stayed with us. They all belonged to family or neighbors and needed temporary boarding. One of the horses had been a neighbor for several years. When he was on the other side of the fence in our back yard he and I really got close. I'd go out to the fence and he would come lay his head on my shoulder. I really love all animals.

Shaggy is such a sweetie. We have spent so much time with him that neither of us is really new to the other. The only time I have a problem with him is at bath time. He really hates a bath! Even before he lived with us he always knew that when he came to my house, he would be getting a bath. lol His hair is medium, I guess, and he needs to be groomed right now. I'm hoping to let his hair grow longer. I'm misting him and combing him out everyday right now but I need to get a better conditioner. Any ideas on bath time? This little fellow is soaking me. :)

Nope, no real tips for bathing from me. We always get a bit wet when we bathe our Yoda. He doesn't splash as much as he used to, but he does shake it off and try to get out a bit. He doesn't mind baths so much now because afterwards, he gets to play with the towel that dries him off. He plays a mean game of tug-and-war with it. :P

Higgin's Mom 10-11-2004 10:46 AM

Hard as I try to stay dry, I'm soaking wet after bathing Higgins. How such a LITTLE dog can get such a BIG person SO wet is beyond me, but he does! Neither one of us particularly enjoys it, but we do it anyway....... ;)

Gypsy Rose 10-11-2004 01:29 PM

My Gypsy Rose certainly has a bath-time hint for Shaggy and that's run like mad!! She's not keen on a bath either (understatement!) - she's nearly 15 months and we have baby Gizzie aged 12 weeks. My name's Ana and we live in Wales and would like to say welcome to you and Shaggy and all your other pets too. Ana xx
