Color Changes? 2 Attachment(s) My baby Zeta, when we first got her, was a very dark color (First Picture). Now, she has turned a rather light blonde (second picture) . I think she is adorable either way and she will always be my angel. I am just wondering if this is a genetic thing and normal or if there might be something wrong? She is my first yorkie so I don't know much about this. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. |
You didn't say how old she was when you got her, was she still a pup? Yorkies coats change color, they start out as black and tan. As they get older the black is suppose to change to a steel blue and her tan should be a golden tan that lightens towards the end of the hairs. The color change takes awhile and may not be complete even after 1 year of age. So, I would say it is all normal and to be expected. |
Venus is 6 months old. When I got her, she was black and tan. Now, only the tips of her hair on her head is black, rest is growing out silver! She looks like I quit dying her hair or something:p I've noticed some silver coming in on the rest of her coat too, here and there. Don't know about everyone elses pups, but thats how Venus is now at 6 months. I'm really hoping she keeps the black on her coat, but I think that turns silver. I know it did with Adonis. |
When I got her she was just a puppy...barely old enough to leave her mommy. That Feb. of this year. So she is still very very young. I think that is why I got so concerned. |

Oh that is very normal. That is her adult coat coming in. It should finish changing by the time she is 2. |
My dog keeps changing, from black and tan to tan and light silver all over. BUT I'm noticing new dark gray roots where the lightest hair is. So he'll not be silver after all, most probably, but he's only 6 mo old so I'm very curious :) |
I have noticed a few darker roots on Zeta too...and the weird thing is, right before she went to the groomer I was looking at her hair and some of the roots were blonde with almost black tips...it was odd. But, I am glad that this is normal. It eases a mom's worries :D |
