10lb adult? Is that a good size for an adult girl yorkie? That's the estimated adult size of this pup I'm considering getting. I just realized that I don't know much about the size of typical adult yorkies. How big are your babies and what do you think is a good size for a yorkie. |
The AKC standard is 4-7 pounds. If you just want her for a pet and no breeding or showing, size won't matter so much. |
The standard is 4-7. If your pup is supposed to be 10 lbs I would make sure you are getting a good price for it because its over the standard and should be priced less |

I would definately think that she should be priced less. Mine are 3 and 5 lb which is a good size for carrying around. If i had a 10 pounder I would invest in a stroller.:rolleyes: |
I think I'd like a 5/6lb girl...did anyone have problems with their pups being small? Or is it a myth that smaller dogs have more health problems? |
It is a myth. Any size can have health problems. There are people on here with real tiny ones that are healthy. I like that 5-6 lb range too. My female is 6 lbs and I can still carry her in a carrier yet she is not fragile |

10lbs is still very small and carryable but if you want smaller & within the standard then i would look elsewhere |
1 Attachment(s) here is a 10 pounder. she is 10 months old and hasnt grown any other than got fatter in about 3 months. so I dont think she is gonna grow any more. just so you can see one this size, but she isnt big to me. |

I have an 11 pound yorkie, I paid an average price, and despite some other issues COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO SIZE, I feel he was worth every penny!!! He is also still very easily carried and transported btw. On a side note I think it is extremely rude, when people nit pick about size and add eye roll symbols over any size of yorkie too small or too big. Yorkies are yorkies, like any other breed most have no business in the show ring, some have health problems, some have been poorly bred. The snobbish attitude a lot of tiny yorkie owners have about the big guys really irks me, tinies are just as unfit for the show ring...If you cannot carry 10 pounds you may need to start working out!!! |
Okay if the comments about the eye rolling is to me, you guys took me wrong. I wasn't rolling eyes about bigger Yorkies I was rolling eyes meaning it was a joke about putting the bigger Yorkie in the stroller. 10 lb isn't that big. My little 5 lb girl (whom I do show) is carried around most of the time. She's completely spoiled, and even at 5 lb my arms can get tired of toting her around, but I think that is more from being in an odd possition not from the weight. Maybe she would sit in a baby sling. |
