Yorkies and brushing
 
I would like to know, when you brush your yorkie coat everyday is there a little amount of air that you collect from the brush after finisshing brushing or this is not supposed to be ?:confused:

Jewels has long hair and there is always hair in the brush after I am done. Chachi has short hair and there isnt

layla has a cottony coat.. so there are always tangles in it.. my mom does the brushing (their night time ritual) but i'm pretty sure there is always a lot of hair in there.. especially if she has been outside playing all day.. seems to make her have more tangles.

Yes , it is normal . Its just like humans when they brush their hairs .

I brush every day and always have some hairs in the brush. :) I always have hair in my brush when I brush my hair too !:eek:

:yeahthat: That was what I was going to say. I usually have more hair in my brush when I'm done with myself, but there is always hair when I'm done doing the dogs.

We always get a little hair in the brush at night......totally normal.

well i to am a little confused because i have heard it said never brush a dry coat so i always spray a little miracle coat on first but i also heard from the show breeders never brush a dirty coat so what is it? If you don't brush a dirty coat are we doing damage brushing everyday? Peeka's coat is growing but i noticed a lot of split ends and stuff so i'm confused because i bath him once a week and brush him every other day or so he never has tangles or mats so why the split ends? just curious.

Perhaps the "way" you brush, perhaps the "type" of brush???? I don't have the answer, just possibilities as to why split ends. I always brush wet! I spray a little of "cowboy magic" mixed with water on both the yorkie and malt and if there are any mats, I apply some directly to the mat and let it set for a few minutes and then carefully separate the hair. I hope someone else can give you some suggestions or answers.:)

I heard that too never to brush a dry coat, apart from cowboy magic what can you use to spray on the coat and make it wet?

There are so many products out there. I just happen to like the cowboy magic smell and it really does help with mats. I also have used the petsilk conditioner mixed with water just to give it a little touch of smell and to help with the tangles. I find that my yorkie gets more tangled ends than mats but I do brush him every day. The previous owner was using a slicker brush on him and I think it caused some damage. He hated being brushed when we first got him but now with the change of brushes he fell asleep yesterday while I was grooming himm. I really don't like using those brushes......but I am sure there are just as many yorkie owners that use them and are happy with them. To me the important thing is not to brush a dry coat......from what others have said and from what I have read. That help? I just purchase bless the beasts from the Bo Derek collection but it has not arrived and I may try mixing some of that conditioner with water as well.
