RE: Has anyone used a Barking Device Good or Bad??? RE: Barking Device Good  or Bad :thumbdown ???? Well i remember that last week somone mentioned buying Farnam Comfort Zone with D.A.P. Plug-In for Dogs which disperses dog-appeasing pheromone, which mimics a natural comforting pheromone produced by dogs. They said it helps calm dog etc. and reduces barking, and chewing. Well Toto is getting out of control with his barking, and when we tell him no in a stern way he barks even more. It's driving me and everyone crazy. So i wanted to know if anyone has used anything like this. And if it works. I also know that they sell some that you place on the wall and it sends a sound that only dogs can hear and it prevents them from barking. It sounds cruel but i want to try it for a while and maybe he'll reduce his barking. I don't want to buy a collar that sprays a smell when he barks i just want something to put in the room which reduce his barking. |
i haven't used either one of those but we are thinking about buying the second one you mention (the noise only dogs can hear) b/c nala loves to bark. one of our dogs is really old and can't stand all that yappin and nala loves to sit and bark at her so she will chase her. we can't get her to stop once she starts and when you tell her no she just barks even louder. |
I know what you mean if you tell them no they just get louder. Do you think it has a side effect later in life. I only plan to have it until he controls his barking. He may realize that after a while not to bark, like he might get use to it. Hopefully  Which one do u plan on buying? |
barking I have tried just about everything at once time or the other. I liked the hand held No barker..you push a button and it emits a loud beep...that got control over my barkers..they would be quiet without me yelling. The bad ones needed one on one training. Put your hands around his muzzle and tell him no, not loud, but firm...and he needs a time out pen. Squirt bottle of water works also. The best is a trainer, they can nip it in the bud for you before it becomes a bad habit you can not live with..best wishes |
Thanks for all the advice, I want to stop the barking before it begins with Peanut. She will bark if I leave her in another room and she can't see me. If I poke my head around the corner she stops so my next try is going to be the squirt bottle. my question is will it work since she LOVES water? Guess we will find out |
I have heard that if you yell at them when they are barking, they think you are barking too. The best thing is to 'shock' them. In other words, shake a soda can with coins in it, or like a previous poster said, using the hand held device that emits a loud sound. Then praise them when they stop. My only problem is who walks around with these things in their hands all the time? So you have to plan training times when someone will ring the doorbell or something for you. |
Actually i tried the coins in the plastic bottle it just makes him more angry and he barks more. And i think the one you hold in your hand is going to be impossible. I'm going to buy the one that looks like a box and you leave it in the room and when he barks its sends like a noise that only he can hear which will make him stop barking something like that its hard to explain. Has anyone ever tried something like this before? |
